Job Summary & Key ResponsibilitiesA part-time academic is required to teach ASSC 1700.03 Communications for Nursing and Kinesiology in the Fall term (September to December 2024). The lectures are scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:35 to 9:25, and tutorials are scheduled on Mondays from 8:35 to 9:25.This is a large course that is restricted to students registered in the Nursing program. It provides an introduction to academic writing in the context of health and social care and focuses on professional and academic writing, critical thinking, and communication, particularly within nursing contexts.The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, and the evaluation of student work including both formal and informal writing assignments. The part-time academic will also be responsible for training and supervising teaching assistants, leading tutorials in the case of TA absences, and standardizing TA assessment of student work. The part-time academic should also be available for two hours per week for consultation with students. The position reports to the Associate Dean Academic.
Qualifications/Requirements of PositionApplicants should possess a Ph.D. or be near completion in a relevant field and demonstrated capacity to teach writing and communication at the University level. Experience teaching writing and communication to students in the health professions is preferred.
Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
