Position Overview The Town of Canmore is currently recruiting a Parks Planner to support the town\xe2\x80\x99s continued growth. The Parks Planner is responsible for the development and planning of Town of Canmore (\xe2\x80\x9cTown\xe2\x80\x99s\xe2\x80\x9d) open spaces to ensure development is in alignment with the Town\xe2\x80\x99s landscape design standards, planning documents and community goals around planning for human and recreational use, and growth management. This role will include site visits to evaluate the open spaces and facilities, collaborate with department experts, and bring projects to completion.
Core Responsibilities
Provide Park planning services to the development industry and internal stakeholders to ensure landscape design conditions are met
Ensure alignment with the provisions of the Municipal Government Act, Town Bylaws and Policies, design guidelines, and master plans (including trail connection, outdoor recreational amenities, and tree protection)
Lead the review and implementation of the natural asset registry
Ensure the Landscape Design and Construction Guidelines are current
Present at public meetings (e.g., Council, committees, community engagement)
Collaborate with other departments on the development of strategic planning policy and master plans to identify synergies and operational impacts
Research and draft reports on special projects as assigned by the Manager

Qualifications
Graduate or bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in planning, landscape architecture or a related field \xe2\x80\x93 required
Experience
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible and varied planning experience \xe2\x80\x93 required
1 \xe2\x80\x93 3 years in parks or landscape design related work \xe2\x80\x93 required
Strong communication skills \xe2\x80\x93 demonstrated listening, negotiation, written and oral abilities; specifically, the ability to clearly articulate and transform complex ideas into clear narratives \xe2\x80\x93 require
