The Opportunity Reporting directly to the Director, Planning/ Chief Planner this role is responsible for helping the division define strategies and frameworks that allow the Town of Caledon make sound decisions about environmental management and the natural heritage system and ensuring that parks and open spaces within the Town of Caledon are designed and constructed to meet the needs of the community while maximizing the use of space in an efficient and cost-effective manner. As the Manager, Parks & Natural Heritage, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
  • Liaise with internal departments, the public, external agencies, and businesses as a subject matter expert on environmental planning, cash in lieu and parkland dedication.
  • Oversee project management and contract administration. Responsible for the project intake process, developing project plans, scheduling, preparing, and monitoring capital budgets and performance measures.
  • Oversee the parks asset management program Liaises with residents, developers, builders, consultants, agencies and stakeholder groups development applications, development of strategies and programs, and implementation of projects related to natural heritage restoration, environmental sustainability and resilience, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Develops long-term strategies for the protection of natural assets and improvements in environmental sustainability and resilience in partnership with Region of Peel, Conservation Authorities and other appropriate agencies and stakeholders, and provides input to the negotiations and preparation of joint activity agreements.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive approach to public engagement for natural asset protection, sustainable communities, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Oversee the preparation of all policies and procedures relating to project specific initiatives.
  • Advise Growth Management Committee, Planning and Development, Council, etc. on all matter\xe2\x80\x99s natural heritage and parks.
  • Provide strong leadership to establish collaborative relationships and consultation processes with staff, affiliates, partners, consultants, residents, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee and guide landscape architects and environmental planners providing input into development application review process.
  • Supervise in-house and contracted staff assigned to perform work and activities as defined herein.
The Ideal Candidate We are seeking a passionate professional with a post-secondary degree in Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Urban Design and/or Public Administration from an accredited university or a closely related field. Registered professional, and in good standing, with an accredited association (i.e., Landscape Architect, Engineer, Planner or suitable equivalent). Full membership with the Canadian Institute of Planner (MCIP) and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (O.P.P.I) or equivalent is an asset. Our ideal candidate has minimum 7 years of related experience and minimum 4 years of supervisory experience, preferably within a municipal infrastructure development environment. With knowledge of Province of Ontario statutes, regulations and guidelines governing the planning process in Ontario including the Planning Act, the Municipal Act and the Environmental Protection Act and a strong working knowledge with respect to parkland dedication and cash in lieu of parkland. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated working knowledge of landscape architecture, project management, park programming and design, urban design, municipal zoning and development by-laws, master planning, budgeting, and contract management. We are seeking an individual with superior communication skills, a demonstrated ability to make decisions affecting department level, and excellent leadership skills. The successful candidate for Manager, Parks & Natural Heritage will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required). This position offers a salary range of $122,330.85 - $149,916.40 plus a competitive benefit package. Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
