Job Title: Natural Resources Manager (Anticipatory) Department: Heritage, Lands & Natural Resources Status: Full-Time Permanent Salary: $66,595.82 - $91,458.14 Level: 10 - 12 Closing Date: August 31, 2022 JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Senior Manager of Heritage, Lands, and Natural Resources (HLNR), the Natural Resources Manager is responsible for implementing and administering Fish and Wildlife Management, Forest Resource Management, The Mining and Field Operations and Environmental Monitoring programs for the Carcross/Tagish First Nation (C/TFN), This position is responsible for integrating the four elements of the Values and Virtues of Life (mental, emotional, spiritual and physical) into these programs. The Natural Resource Manager will ensure the programs reflect, where possible, life’s’ four stages - child, youth, adult and elder. The Natural Resource Manager must be willing to change with the ongoing evolution of C/TFN circle governance. This position plays a critically important role in the ongoing development and fostering of Nation to Nation relationship building. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES The Natural Resource Manager is responsible for:

  • Implementing and administering Fish and Wildlife planning and programs such as harvest management, hunter surveys, fish and wildlife population data collection, and compliance monitoring
  • Providing Fish and Wildlife management recommendations internally and to various boards, committees and councils as required.
  • Implementing advice and recommendations from the Land Management Board.
  • As required, assist in providing expert advice to team discussions and decisions.
  • In collaboration with the Governance Department and HLNR Management Team, assist with the development and implementation of C/TFN Legislation such as the Wildlife Act, as well as regulations and bylaws.
  • Participate in development of the Community Knowledge Keeper database, by providing guidance for establishment of natural resource datasets.
  • Assist and participate in internal and external planning initiatives.
  • Attend on behalf of the Government of C/TFN Wildlife, Fish, Habitat and relevant meetings. (Internal and external).
  • Prepare briefing notes using prescribed forms.
  • Management of Section Budget.
  • Proposal writing
  • Participate in weekly bi-lateral meetings with Heritage Lands and Natural Resources Management Meetings to review briefings and work plans.
  • Plan and implement, review and evaluate research programming: Fish and Wildlife, Forestry, Water, Ecology (Research Center of Excellence)
  • Assist in the ongoing implementation of the GC/TFN Final Agreement
  • Other related duties.
QUALIFICATIONS (Candidate application/resumes should clearly demonstrate their related qualifications as selection for further consideration will be based on the information provided)
  • Masters Degree in Renewable Resources Management, Fish and Wildlife Management, Environmental Sciences, Forest Management or related discipline;
  • Minimum of 5 years of Management and Leadership experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Fish and Wildlife
  • Knowledge of CTFN traditional territory, customary practice, and culture
  • Standard First Aid and willingness to obtain higher
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Sign and abide by the C/TFN Code of Ethics.
  • Willingness to participate in training programs (i.e. PAL)
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Travel to various locations in the Yukon/Alaska/BC is a requirement of this position.
  • Knowledge of CTFN traditional territory, customary practice, and culture
