What can I expect to do in this role?

In this unique and challenging role, you will:
  • Plan, control and direct the management of the park
  • Provide leadership on human resources activities (i.e. selection, training and evaluation of staff, managing performance, etc.)
  • Plan, prepare and administer the park budget
  • Manage issues through negotiations, facilitation, conflict resolution and crisis management
  • Provide leadership on local issues regarding land use planning, tourism and public safety
  • Provide leadership on ecosystem protection and management
  • Plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate park operations and park infrastructure
  • Provide leadership in the delivery of quality customer service to park guests
  • Develop marketing and promotional partnerships with volunteers, interest groups and stakeholders

How do I qualify?

Mandatory:

  • You must have a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario
  • You must have the ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet the ministry certification criteria and standards in the Use of Force
  • You must be able to obtain a Limited Surface Water Subsystem Operator's Certificate
  • You must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid certificate
  • You must be able to work shifts, weekends and holidays as per schedule


Technical expertise:

  • You possess knowledge of resource management principles related to park management, operations and planning
  • You have knowledge of marketing principles and strategies in order to promote park usage and merchandise
  • You are knowledgeable of general building and utility maintenance and related skilled trades and equipment to supervise on-site construction projects


Leadership skills:

  • You have leadership skills to supervise and develop a large diverse staff, monitor performance and promote excellence in customer service and team performance
  • You have team leadership skills to plan and deliver a regional ecosystem management program
  • You have demonstrated skills in managing human resources including labour relations issues


Analytical skills:

  • You have the ability to interpret and apply related policies, procedures, acts, regulations and legislation in the areas of environmental protection, staff supervision, financial administration, park enforcement and health and safety


Communications and interpersonal skills:

  • You have communication, interpersonal, negotiation and facilitation skills to liaise with various stakeholders, volunteers, agencies and interest group as well as the public, media and other park staff
  • You have political acuity to effectively manage issues in a dynamic environment to balance user and interest group needs with the protection of the park environment


Financial skills:

  • You have demonstrated skills in preparing and managing financial budgets
