Work Status: Temporary Contract (10 Month Contract)

Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid)

About the Role:

Global Edmonton is looking for a full-time Online Journalist for a 10-month temporary contract position. Reporting to the Digital Managing Editor you will be part of a team of dedicated reporters responsible to keep the Global News website current and relevant by writing original stories and curating Global News content. The successful candidate may be required to work variable shifts including weekdays, evenings, and weekends. This is a Group F position in the current collective agreement.

You\'ll be working on things like:

• Pitch, chase and write stories for Globalnews.ca with a focus on Alberta.
• Generate original story ideas
• Manage the front page of the Global Alberta website
• Create, edit, and publish video content to website and social media channels
• Available to work weekdays, evenings and weekends
• Other duties as assigned

If you have the following...we want to hear from you!

• Post-Secondary education in journalism or broadcasting
• Minimum of 2 years\' of relevant experience in a small/medium market.
• Familiarly with online publishing tools (e.g. Wordpress)
• Strong writing and storytelling skills
• Understanding of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats
• Working knowledge of new media tools and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc), and related applications
• Experience with video storytelling and video editing is an asset.
• Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines in a high-tech environment
• Proven abilities as a team player with a positive attitude
• Self-starter with good communication skills
• Familiarity with Canadian Press style would be considered an asset
