About the Role

Global Calgary has an opening for a full-time Online Journalist to join the team. Reporting to the Online Supervisor, you will be part of a team of dedicated reporters responsible for keeping the Global News website current and relevant by writing original stories and curating Global News content. This position involves a variety of shifts including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a Group F position in the current collective agreement.

• Pitch, chase and write stories for Globalnews.ca with a focus on Alberta, specifically Calgary.
• Generate original story ideas
• Manage the front page of the Global Calgary website
• Publish video content to website and social media channels
• Other duties as assigned

If you have the following...we want to hear from you!

• Post-secondary education in Journalism, Broadcasting or a related field
• A minimum of 2 years\' experience in a similar role
• Familiarly with online publishing tools (e.g. Wordpress)
• Strong writing and storytelling skills
• Good knowledge of social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.
• Video editing experience considered an asset
• Understanding of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats
• Familiarity with Canadian Press style would be considered an asset
• Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines in a high-tech environment
• Proven abilities as a team player with a positive attitude
• Self-starter with good communication skills
