Laboratory Technicians are responsible for preparing, setting up, and cleaning lab materials, including equipment and supplies. Laboratory Technicians also answer student questions in lab and field trip exercises. Thus, Laboratory technician duties include ordering, testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment; ensuring lab safety procedures are followed; answering student questions during labs; and accompanying students on field trips.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
On-Call for the Fall 2025 Term (September - December 2025), with the possibility of new contracts in subsequent terms.
HOURLY WAGE:
$26.67
WORK WEEK:
The successful candidate will be scheduled to work on an as-needed basis. Hours of work are not guaranteed and may vary according to departmental needs.
LOCATION:
Vancouver campus downtown, located at 570 Dunsmuir, Vancouver, BC. This schedule may be adjusted at any time during the term of the contract as per the Unit's needs.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
A recent graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree specializing in biology and chemistry, with strong math skills
Recent WHMIS certification
Strong understanding of a combination of first- and second-year science courses (biology and chemistry)
Laboratory experience
Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work alone or as part of a team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Preparing, setting up, and putting away lab materials, equipment, and supplies.
Answering student questions during labs.
Communicating with faculty regarding weekly laboratory preparation
Maintaining lab preparation documents.
Testing labs and suggesting changes to instructors if needed.
Testing and maintaining lab and safety equipment.
Ensuring lab safety procedures are being followed.
Assisting the Department Head of Mathematics and Science as required with planning and modifying laboratory facilities.
