The Opportunity Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement, this role is responsible for providing on-call emergency response to animal control calls received through the Call Centre. As the After-Hours Animal Control Officer, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
  • Respond to and investigate complaints and inquiries concerning domestic and wild animals, birds and reptiles
  • Attend, investigate and document all dog bites under the Animal Control By-Law and report to the Health Department and OPP as required
  • Provide humane and skilled capture, handling and restraint of wild animals (on public lands) and domestic animals including sick, injured and aggressive animals, in the community and transport to either a veterinarian clinic, wildlife center or Caledon animal shelter.
  • Investigate and document Livestock Claims
The Ideal Candidate We are seeking am enthusiastic professional with a post-secondary diploma in Animal Care (Animal Health Technician or Veterinary Technician) or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has a minimum 2 years related experience in animal care or handling. and a valid Class \xe2\x80\x98G\xe2\x80\x99 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a personal vehicle. The candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including lifting (up to 100 lbs.), bending, twisting, and working in adverse weather conditions. The candidate must be able to work variable and 24-hour shifts including on-call, weekends, and holidays.
The ideal candidate has the ability to recognize and deal effectively with a diversity of animals, problems and behaviours. The ideal candidate will be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills. We are seeking an individual with the ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity, use sound judgement and stay objective and calm when facilitating discussions, especially in conflict situations.
This position offers a starting pay rate of $33.09 per hour.
Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
