NURSING MANAGER

Full-Time Vacancy

Hybrid (Off-Season) - Toronto Provincial Office

Summer Camp Season - Regular travel and extended stays at Camp Woodeden (London, Ontario) and Camp Merrywood (Perth, Kingston)

Easter Seals Ontario seeks a Nursing Manager who exemplifies accountability, attention to detail, and integrity. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Recreation, the Nursing Manager will be a hands-on direct resource responsible for the overall wellbeing of our campers and staff during the summer season. In addition, this role provides support as needed to the organization on various medical, occupational health or preventative initiatives.

SUMMARY OF PRIORITIES:

The priorities generally include, but are not limited to, the following high-level tasks and duties:

Leading, supervising and training a healthcare team at our two camps that includes Nursing staff and Personal Support Workers
o Recruitment of the seasonal teams,

o onboarding, mentoring and supervision

Camper application approvals and care planning for ESO's campers Policy and procedure updates related to healthcare Health & safety / occupational health involvement
RESPONSIBLITIES:

Recreation- Camp

Human Resources

Recruitment
o Oversee the recruitment of healthcare team members for the summer camping season, ensuring roles are filled with qualified and passionate individuals aligned with Easter Seals Ontario's mission.

Active Recruiting Initiatives
o Lead and participate in active recruiting efforts, including facilitating presentations, organizing meet-and-greet sessions, and attending job fairs and recruitment events at universities, colleges, and community organizations.

o Develop partnerships with local organizations and networks to attract diverse and skilled candidates.

Onboarding Support
o Oversee and manage the onboarding process for healthcare team members, ensuring a seamless transition into their roles.

o Provide comprehensive orientation sessions and initial training to familiarize first year camp staff with healthcare related policies, procedures, and expectations.

o Provide hands-on site supervision and management to the camp healthcare teams throughout the summer camp season to ensure adherence to best practices in care delivery and to address any emerging challenges promptly.

o Act as an effective leader and mentor, offering personalized guidance to healthcare team members. Focus on professional development, helping them enhance their skills and supporting their progress toward achieving individual career goals within Easter Seals Ontario (ESO).

Ongoing Team Engagement
o Participate in team meetings to offer insights and strategies for improving recruitment processes and enhancing team engagement.

o Foster a positive and inclusive team culture by providing ongoing support and encouragement to healthcare staff throughout their employment.

Training

Recreation Healthcare Team (January - September)
o Facilitate and oversee comprehensive training and educational sessions for healthcare and program staff during the preseason, ensuring all team members are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for their roles.

o Lead the ongoing review and enhancement of Nursing Training Material and the Policies and Procedures Manual, ensuring that all resources reflect up-to-date standards of care, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. This includes:

o Incorporate feedback from previous camp seasons to address gaps or inefficiencies.

o Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the content is accurate and relevant.

o Distribute updated materials and conducting sessions to familiarize staff with the revisions.

Program Administration

Camper Applications
o Ensure camper applications are designed to include all necessary questions to gather accurate, relevant, and useful information from applicants.

o Conduct thorough reviews of all camper applications to identify medical concerns or areas requiring additional information and determine program eligibility.

o Proactively follow up with families as needed to address any medical details, ensuring clarity and readiness for camp participation.

Care Planning
o Participate actively in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized multidisciplinary care plans to meet the unique needs of each camper.

o Collaborate with families and healthcare professionals to ensure care plans are comprehensive, practical, and aligned with campers' abilities and goals.

o Establish and maintain timely and thorough reporting protocols for camper care, ensuring a comprehensive healthcare report is completed for each camp session

Summer Deployment
o Foster a healthcare culture rooted in person-first healthcare philosophy, ensuring the delivery of care contributes to an exceptional camper experience.

o Serve as a working nurse during the summer camp season (June through till August), providing hands-on guidance and leadership to the Healthcare Team and front-line staff at both camps.

o Act as a resource for troubleshooting, decision-making, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, while fostering a positive and supportive environment for staff and campers alike.

o Coordinate and lead the arrival day check-in process for campers, ensuring a smooth and thorough transfer of all medical information and medications.

o Manage the scheduling of healthcare providers at both camps, tracking hours and providing reports for payroll purposes.

Other Duties

Service Leadership
o Provide support and leadership in designated service areas, such as the Equipment Funding Program and the Incontinence Grants Program, as required

o Act as a resource and mentor to team members, sharing knowledge and strategies to enhance service delivery.

Special Projects and Organizational Success
o Contribute to the organization's success by performing relevant responsibilities beyond core duties, ensuring the continued growth and impact of Easter Seals Ontario.

o Undertake special projects as assigned by the Executive Leadership Team, bringing creativity, diligence, and a results-driven approach to every task.

Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
o Serve as an active JHSC member and co-chair, attending quarterly meetings to review workplace safety protocols, identify potential risks, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

o Collaborate with committee members to develop and implement initiatives that promote a safe and healthy work environment.

o Act as an ongoing resource for the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, providing expertise and support for occupational health initiatives and preventative training measures.

o Design and deliver training programs tailored to enhance staff awareness and compliance with health and safety standards.

Non-Occupational Accommodation Plans

o Assist Human Resources in developing and reassessing non-occupational accommodation plans for personnel, ensuring that individual needs are met in compliance with organizational policies and applicable legislation.

o Provide recommendations for adjustments to ensure the accommodation process remains fair, inclusive, and effective.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse Certification
o Hold a current and valid registration as a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Driver's License and Transportation
o Possess a valid driver's license and have reliable access to a vehicle for travel as required.

Organizational and Interpersonal Skills
o Demonstrate exceptional organizational abilities and the capacity to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.

o Be a team player with outstanding verbal and written communication skills, alongside a strong customer service orientation.

Technical Proficiency
o Exhibit proficient knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Word) and the ability to work efficiently on virtual collaboration platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams.

Background Check
o Obtain clearance from a police background check, including a vulnerable sector screening, to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations.

Relevant Experience Previous camping experience would be highly beneficial, especially in a leadership or healthcare role. Additionally, mandatory participation in the OCA Healthcare Committee is required, offering opportunities to contribute to healthcare initiatives in the camp environment. Experience with Complex Care Needs You have hands-on experience working with children and youth with physical disabilities and complex care needs, ensuring you are well-equipped to address the unique challenges of this population. Willingness/Ability to Travel You must open and willing (as required) to travel to engage with stakeholders regarding service delivery. This may involve attending meetings or visiting our camp locations near London and Perth, Ontario to ensure that programs are meeting the needs of our campers and stakeholders. Building Respectful Relationships You have a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain respectful and professional relationships with key stakeholders, including managers, funders, contractors, executive colleagues, outside agencies, children, youth, and their families, as well as multi-disciplinary teams. Effective Communication You are an effective communicator, able to clearly and concisely articulate organizational goals, specific tasks, and expectations to a wide range of audiences, ensuring understanding and alignment across all levels of the organization.
Hours of Work & Working Conditions

Hybrid schedule: a minimum of 2-3 on-site days per week during the camp off-season; occasional evening and weekend work as required. During the summer camp season, this role requires regular travel and extended stays at Camp Woodeden (London, Ontario) and Camp Merrywood (Perth, Kingston).
Salary Range: $90,000 to $110,000 (based on experience)
