Nurse Educator, Physical Medicine and RehabilitationThe Saskatchewan Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Drugs Program, at the behest of Saskatchewan Health/Drug Plan and Extended Benefits Branch (DPEBB), assists in determining eligibility of beneficiaries for MS Exception Drug Status (EDS) coverage, and provides MS drug treatment education and health system navigation services. The Program's operations include quality of life and health outcomes research as well as development of knowledge mobilization tools, which inform and advance MS best practice.Primary Purpose: To provide health system navigation and education on appropriate MS treatment to people living with MS and to health care providers. You will collaborate with multiple local and national stakeholders in MS care and research to enhance clinical best practice. The nature of the work involves developing and maintaining specialized MS knowledge and skills in order to provide virtual outreach services across the province of Saskatchewan. You will be involved in the creation of knowledge mobilization tools and collaborating on developing MS clinical best practice guidelines.Nature of Work: Your knowledge of the MS treatment context (evidence-informed, patient-centered care, health policy, funding mechanisms, etc.) and attention to detail will facilitate appropriate MS drug treatment, symptom management, and rehabilitation services for Saskatchewan people living with MS. Your work will be based out of hospital and academic settings, reporting to the Director of the Saskatchewan Multiple Sclerosis Drugs Program, and Co-lead of the Canadian MS Knowledge Mobilization Network. Work will require occasional after hours work and travel within Saskatchewan and may include travel for national or international representation and learning; no shift work.Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of MS best practice over the disease course, Health Canada-approved MS drug treatments, provincial MS Exception Drug Status (EDS) criteria, MS treatment safety updates, MS drug funding mechanisms, active MS clinical trials, MS rehabilitation and symptom management
  • Develop knowledge implementation tools that support best practice in collaboration with patient advisors, members of the Canadian MS Knowledge Mobilization Network, the Saskatoon MS Clinic team and other members of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, research groups, and MS Canada
  • Collaborate in-person and remotely with patients, families and health care professionals to provide education and navigation services at the point of care (i.e., at in-person or virtual encounters). Facilitate patient monitoring and assessment processes
  • Synthesize research on topics related to the comprehensive care of persons with MS, including drug risk/benefit profiles, health behaviors, mental health, MS symptom and rehabilitation management
  • Respond promptly to MS drug and health system navigation enquiries (phone, email, or in-person) from Saskatchewan people living with MS and health care providers. Maintain records of contact and inform relevant circle of care providers of the MS education services provided. Provide cross-coverage for other nurse educators and research team members in service provision
  • Coordinate and participate in knowledge mobilization projects and events that may occur outside of regular work hours (local, national or international in person or virtual events)
Education/Licenses: Current RN license with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan. Active International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN) membership desirable. McMaster chart review and TCPS2 CORE certificates required.Experience: Experience in knowledge mobilization, knowledge synthesis or clinical practice guideline development highly desirable; experience in adult learning, health behaviour change and health ethics advantageous. Possess knowledge of quality assurance research and policies surrounding privacy of personal health information.Skills: Must demonstrate: strong patient-centered service ethic, command of the English language, self-directed initiative, critical thinking, and ability to work independently and in teams.
