The Nurse Educator provides education services including individual and group learning workshops to nursing staff, allied health staff across PHSA programs, and professional practice. The Nurse Educator focuses on the development of education strategy to support new graduates, students, employed students, and internationally hired staff across PHSA. The role utilizes educational/curriculum theory and knowledge of generalized nursing practice to design, develop, implement and evaluate education programs and resources, teaching and learning principles and processes. The Nurse Educator consults, confers, and collaborates with program and team members as well as other Educators in promotion of continuous quality improvement, resolution of education issues, and coordination of activities required for progressive educational programs in the context of workplace learning.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Develops, implements and evaluates education programs in collaboration with program leadership; education programs include orientation/training programs for new graduates, educational support programs, continuing education sessions and Educator Pathway.
  • Facilitates scheduling of education sessions by collaborating with team members to determine times, frequency, and duration to ensure effective use of resources; maintains records and identifies/schedules team member attendance at update sessions.
  • Prepares and facilitates interactive learning sessions to support and guide nursing graduates and other designated groups.
  • Supports preceptors/preceptees, mentors/mentees and clinical programs using teaching and learning principles and a program planning and evaluation process to meet the identified educational needs of staff.
  • Develops, reviews and modifies learning resources such as new grad workshops, checklists and reference documents using established educational standards, ensuring content reflects the most up-to-date, peer reviewed, evidence-based best practice. Strives to match content and delivery method.
  • Provides feedback to other developers to ensure resources are current, relevant, cost effective and coordinated. Initiates strategies to improve program content and delivery.
What you bring
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two (2) years\xe2\x80\x99 recent, related education experience and/or experience developing, implementing and/or delivering education services, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License. Local area travel requires the use of personal vehicle.
You also have demonstrated:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centered model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of BCCNM Standards for Nursing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in patient/client care.
  • Broad knowledge of research methodology and processes.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission\xe2\x80\x99s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
