NUCLEAR SECURITY OFFICER \xe2\x80\x93 The Nuclear Security Officer will perform work normally associated with the physical protection of personnel, property and strategic nuclear materials at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) in Chalk River, ON. As a Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) you will provide security response capabilities to breaches of security, emergencies and/or contingency operations, on or in relation to CNL properties.

In order to maintain a reliable and robust reaction force for the defense of Chalk River Laboratories (CRL), it is necessary for Security to conduct realistic training, ensuring the protection of CNL employees, facilities and nuclear materials.

THE POSITION

We are looking for several Nuclear Security Officer Trainees. Our Nuclear Security Officer Trainees (NSOT) are accountable for performing various security activities on various rotating shift assignments, in accordance with oral and written instructions, company and site-specific policies and procedures and applicable legislation.

Security -> Provide conventional security response capabilities to breaches of security, emergencies and /or contingency operations, on or in relation to CNL properties;

Utilize the correct application of the \xe2\x80\x9cUse of Force Continuum\xe2\x80\x9d.

Prepare and maintain records of security activities performed as per procedures.

Investigate incidents and prepare reports involving breaches of security regulations, and other incidents discovered during security patrols or as requested by the Nuclear Response Team Sergeant.

Perform regular security activities such as motor vehicle and foot patrols, gate duty, personnel and vehicle searches.

Check on security facility housekeeping, anti-intrusion and other property protection equipment conditions.

May be required to operate and monitor closed circuit television units and intrusion equipment.

Respond to alarms on-site and at remote locations.

Responsibility and Leadership -> Capability of working independently in an environment of stressful situations and ability to meet requirements to ensure an appropriate \xe2\x80\x9cFit for Duty\xe2\x80\x9d status;

May be required to carry and effectively employ a variety of non-lethal and lethal weapon systems, day and night surveillance systems, as well as standard and tactical communications systems.

Operate, as required, a motor vehicle equipped with appropriate firearms and communication equipment.

Participate in regular physical fitness training and exercises, drills and testing under the guidance of designated personnel or on their own to maintain minimum acceptable standards.

Adhere to required dress code and safety equipment, including PPE- carrying of protective equipment, ballistic vests, equipment belts, and portable radios to enforce trespassing and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Secondary school graduation or equivalent.

Previous law enforcement, police, military or security environment experience would be considered an asset.

Meet minimum standard for OACP certificate based on the SSPO examination is preferred (copy of test results to be sent to CNL).

Preferred experience in the security or equivalent function to be familiar with the routines and various governing policies, procedures, and regulations, surveillance and detection equipment.

Requires experience to be familiar with the applicable computerized information systems for the production of security reports.

Abilities and Skills

Must be observant, have a good memory, willing to undertake training, be able to work independently without direct supervision and in a team environment.

Applicants must successfully go thorough medical and psychological examination.

Required to have a restricted and non-restricted Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).

Must be able to obtain / maintain Government of Canada Level 3 \xe2\x80\x93 Top Security Clearance and CNSC Inner Area Clearance.

Requires a knowledge interpersonal and group dynamics, and excellent communication skills.

Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions.

Must be willing/able to work a continuous rotating shift schedule that involves working nights, weekends, holidays, and shifts up to twelve (12) hours in duration.

Must possess/retain a valid \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Province of Ontario Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.

Requires knowledge of security techniques, procedures and standards and related statutes and acts.

Physical ability to carry approximately up to 45 pounds of equipment periodically throughout shifts.

Job/Industry Specific Knowledge

Must be proficient in the use of firearms and have knowledge/adherence to all applicable permit conditions, policies, procedures, and statutes that apply to them
