The NSO ensures the safety and security of employees, visitors, and contractors by monitoring the site and proactively preventing or reacting to hazards, emergencies and threats using appropriate methods, tools (including Use of Force), techniques, skills, and training. The NSO rapidly, efficiently, and safely responds to security events by carrying out access control, intervention, and investigation duties under normal, emergency, and hazardous conditions necessary to safeguard life and property. The NSO operates within both a regulatory and a business framework, meeting both Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) objectives and standards. If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!What will you be doing?\xc2\xb7 Performing work associated with the physical protection of personnel, property and special nuclear materials at WL Laboratories in accordance with licensing requirements as set out by the CNSC.\xc2\xb7 Implementing policies and procedures for the WL site in accordance with CNSC physical security regulations and CNL company policies.\xc2\xb7 Participating and maintaining up-to-date, all safety and operational training offered through the company.\xc2\xb7 Assuming personal responsibility and is accountable for maintaining current skills by attending all training required by the site, viewing assigned videos, reading articles, and participating in seminars as required.\xc2\xb7 Working a variety of shifts, which consist of a continuous rotating shift schedule that involves working nights, weekends, holidays, and shifts up to twelve (12) hours in duration.\xc2\xb7 Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, stooping, use of both hands, manual dexterity, visual acuity, colour vision, lifting weights over 50 lbs., climbing ladders, crouching, pulling, balancing, pushing, hearing, crawling, reaching, depth perception/night vision.\xc2\xb7 Sharing learned knowledge and skills with peers.\xc2\xb7 Identifying and reporting any real or potential safety hazards; wearing all safety equipment related to your position and participating in all safety training offered through the facility.\xc2\xb7 Adhering to Workplace Safety and health procedures, WHIMIS program; keeping current with practices; working in a prudent and safe manner and informing other employees if they are using unsafe work practices or equipment.\xc2\xb7 Maintaining confidentiality in all matters.\xc2\xb7 Performing other duties as assigned by the manager.What we are looking for:Someone who had the ability to:\xc2\xb7 Be observant, have a good memory, be willing to undertake training, and be able to work independently without direct supervision and in a team environment.\xc2\xb7 Must be able to obtain/maintain Government of Canada Level 2 \xe2\x80\x93 Secret Security Clearance.\xc2\xb7 Ability to acquire/maintain knowledge and operating skills for various computer hardware and software systems/functions/controls that form part of or relate to physical security at WL-CNL.\xc2\xb7 Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions.\xc2\xb7 Must be willing/able to work a continuous rotating shift schedule that involves working nights, weekends, holidays, and shifts up to twelve (12) hours in duration.\xc2\xb7 Must possess/retain a valid \xe2\x80\x9cClass 4\xe2\x80\x9d Province of Manitoba Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.\xc2\xb7 Must successfully complete the ESO Use of Force Training Program and re-qualify annually thereafter.\xc2\xb7 Must successfully pass the mandatory CNSC medical evaluation indicating physical and mental ability to carry out the duties and responsibilities of a Nuclear Security Officer as detailed in the Nuclear Security Regulations. Must be able to meet these standards annually.\xc2\xb7 Must possess, or be able to obtain, a working knowledge of the Off Shift Radiation Protection Procedures.\xc2\xb7 Must have or be able to obtain WHMIS certification.\xc2\xb7 Must have or be able to obtain CNL Respirator Fit Test Certification.\xc2\xb7 Must have or develop a detailed knowledge of all applicable company Policies & Procedures.\xc2\xb7 Must maintain a current understanding and familiarization with departmental policies, forms, memos, procedures, and special requests.\xc2\xb7 Must have or develop a working knowledge of the CNSC Nuclear Security Regulations.\xc2\xb7 Must have or develop a working knowledge of job-related software and email to complete reports and effectively communicate within the department and the company.\xc2\xb7 Must have or develop Interpersonal Skills required to interact with others to foster mutual understanding, productivity, and organizational advancement, which involves understanding, cooperativeness, diplomacy, sociability, and conflict management.\xc2\xb7 Must have or develop the ability to get along with others in a team environment.\xc2\xb7 Must have or develop confidence and ability to make decisions, render judgements, take action or commit oneself without delay, especially related to emergent responses.\xc2\xb7 Must be able to demonstrate rapid, and reasonable, decision-making abilities and work independently when required.\xc2\xb7 Must possess, or be able to obtain, a Standard First Aid Certification, Level C CPR Certification.\xc2\xb7 Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.\xc2\xb7 Must have the ability to accurately document and report on occurrences related to the site and/or personnel on any issues relating to the scope of security services.\xc2\xb7 Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain a flow of work and accuracy of records.\xc2\xb7 Must be punctual, dependable and safety-minded.\xc2\xb7 Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize and time management is required.\xc2\xb7 The ability to understand detailed information is essential.\xc2\xb7 Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one\xe2\x80\x99s work.\xc2\xb7 Conscientious about accuracy.\xc2\xb7 Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative.\xc2\xb7 Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all organizational levels and with external stakeholders.\xc2\xb7 Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.\xc2\xb7 Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs and emergent responses.\xc2\xb7 Must be in good physical and mental health to perform the position\'s duties.\xc2\xb7 Must possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.\xc2\xb7 Must be capable of wearing and working in protective clothing and using equipment as required.\xc2\xb7 Potential exposure to chemicals, toxins, gases, fire, loud noise, biological hazards, and/or radiation.\xc2\xb7 Make decisions under dangerous and physically demanding conditions, relying on judgement, objectivity, adaptability, experience, and training.Experience\xc2\xb7 Previous law enforcement, police, or military experience would be considered an asset.Education\xc2\xb7 Secondary school graduation or equivalent.Security Eligibility Requirement\xc2\xb7 Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.
