General Description:



Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax and is looking for

One (1) Network Administrator.



The Network Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the organization's network infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure connectivity for all staff, partners, and communities we serve. This includes overseeing the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network hardware and software, troubleshooting network issues, and implementing security measures. The role will also involve providing support to end-users and collaborating with other IT staff to ensure the organization's systems are running efficiently and securely.

The Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre is a fast paced and dynamic work environment, this position requires great problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Management

:
- Design, implement, and maintain local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks (Wi-Fi).
- Configure and manage routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and other network devices to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor network performance and address issues such as connectivity problems, bandwidth limitations, and downtime.
- Conduct regular network audits to identify and address vulnerabilities, ensuring a secure and stable environment.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

:
- Provide technical support to staff and users, troubleshooting network issues, software, and hardware problems.
- Manage and resolve incidents related to network connectivity, ensuring minimal disruption to day-to-day operations.
- Collaborate with IT team members to develop solutions to improve network reliability and user experience.

Network Security

:
- Implement and enforce network security protocols and policies to protect organizational data and resources from external threats.
- Regularly update and patch network devices to prevent security breaches.
- Monitor network traffic for signs of unauthorized access or malicious activity and take corrective action as needed.
- Support compliance with data privacy regulations and organizational security standards.

Documentation and Reporting

:
- Maintain detailed records of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures.
- Provide regular updates and reports on network performance, security incidents, and project status to management.
- Assist in the development of disaster recovery and backup plans to ensure data integrity and availability.

Collaboration and Training

:
- Work closely with other IT staff and departments to align network infrastructure with organizational goals and objectives.
- Offer training and support to staff on network-related topics, including troubleshooting and best practices.
- Support Indigenous community initiatives by assisting in the deployment of network solutions that enhance accessibility and community engagement.

Qualifications:

Education

:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or similar are preferred.

Experience

:
- 2-4 years of experience in network administration or a related IT role.
- Strong experience with network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and technologies (TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
- Proven ability to manage and troubleshoot complex network infrastructures.

Skills

:
- Knowledge of network security principles and best practices.
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios).
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues.

- *Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License, a vehicle and proof of insurance required for this role

Preferred:



- Experience working in a non-profit or community-focused environment.
- Familiarity with specific Indigenous community needs and how technology can support them.
- Knowledge of cloud-based network solutions and remote work infrastructure.
