Cornwall Community Hospital (CCH) is an acute care hospital located in Cornwall, Ontario along the scenic St. Lawrence River. CCH provides a full range of acute inpatient, outpatient and community mental health services to a catchment area of 100,000 people from the communities of Cornwall, the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and to the Mohawk community of Akwesasne.

Summary of responsibilities

The Network Administrator is responsible for maintenance and planning of the CCH's network resources. As the subject matter expert, the Network Administrator is expected to work on project teams and provide leadership for network related matters.




Customer Support Duties


Assessing nature of calls, assigning priority and accurately logging ticket resolutions in the department's database. Troubleshoot any hardware, software or network problems the customers may have. Communicate with customers both verbal and written on the status of their tickets. Coordinate and plan hardware and software installations. Key contact with the Ministry of Health and it's contracted organizations. Key member on all I.T projects, which involve local, regional, or provincial connectivity. Coordinate with vendors for solution evaluation, installation and maintenance. Participate in planning and deployment of all server and network solutions. Provide layer 3 support to all I.T. staff including on-call I.T. staff when network or server advice is required.


Maintain Local and Wide Area Network


Design, administer, troubleshoot and repair all equipment and wiring required by the multi-site local area networks including all switches, routers, firewalls, battery backups and specialty appliances. Implement and manage disaster recovery and data backup/restore operations. Administer the datacenter virtualization environment. Continuously evaluate and implement the required solutions to ensure the cybersecurity and integrity of all the systems (virus scanning, intrusion detection, breach prevention). Responsible for the design, administration and troubleshooting of all aspects of the Active Directory environment including domain controllers DNS, DHCP, GPO and all various resource permissions. Build and configure all servers, as well as maintain software updates as specified by the software manufacturers. Install, configure and maintain SQL Server as well as other database software as required by external vendors that provide third party software solutions along with providing remote access to those vendors for software support services. Implement and maintain all connectivity to the Ontario Health (eHealth) private networks as well as all the partner sites required within the eHealth network. Administer the equipment required for the various interconnectivity to the hosted Cerner electronic health record system. Responsible for all network account maintenance including Active Directory, EHR (Cerner) and any local server or third-party accounts needed for connectivity. Administer the Microsoft 365 cloud solutions including Mail, SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive. Implement and administer all external remote access using SSL or IPSEC VPN's and any third-party remote connectivity solutions. Monitor, analyze and troubleshoot performance issues with all data connectivity with the organization. Coordinate installations of Windows updates in such a way as to minimize impact on daily services or scheduled backups.


Document / Cross Train


Create and document procedures for the daily tasks performed. Create technical instructions and diagrams for other I.T staff to follow. Train other I.T staff of current network architecture or duties or changes to protocols


Research and Coordinate Project and Hardware Requirements


Advise project managers on the server and network requirements for their respective projects. Work with and/or advise the regional, or provincial project teams on connectivity modes from the hospital to external initiatives.
