Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace has an exciting career opportunity for a full-time permanent NC Programmer (Numeric Control Programmer) at our manufacturing hub in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The NC Programmer will primarily be responsible for creating and maintaining NC programs using CAD/CAM systems for waterjet, cloth cutting, CMM, turning, 3 and 5 axis milling, and 5 axis laser machines. The position will also be responsible for preparing associated documentation for program/tool proving, this includes cutting tool drawings, part setup sheets, and program directions. This position will play an important role in the initiation, development, and execution of new and existing programs as well as continuous improvement efforts related to machining operations and processes. When assigned, this position will be responsible for designing jigs, fixtures, and dies to facilitate production processes that meet the requirements of customer drawings, models, and customer specifications in accordance with company and departmental work instructions, ensuring that the design intent and component quality is achieved.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain part programs for all types of numerical control applications, taking into consideration such factors as machining parameters, cutter selections, and control limitations, while ensuring that the design intent and component quality are achieved.
  • Thorough knowledge of machine shop practices.
  • Provide support and guidance to production as required.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Modify drawings of existing tooling, tooling assemblies, and tooling from manufactured and purchased parts.
  • Participate in the research and development of new tools, or the modification of existing tooling to improve the manufacturing process.
  • Aid in evaluation of calibration maintenance of NC machines.
Position Requirements
  • Strong background in machining (turning and milling) and cutting tool technology.
  • Demonstrated ability using CAD/CAM systems related to design and NC machining.
  • Background in designing jigs, fixtures, and dies will be considered an asset.
  • Experience utilizing Siemens NX, Catia, Vericut and ICAM Postprocessor Software considered an asset.
  • Ability to use NC manufacturing equipment (mill, lathe, etc.) will be considered an asset.
  • Completion of a Mechanical Engineering Technologist or Manufacturing Technician diploma with computer numerical control programming or relevant practical experience.
  • Related work experience in a manufacturing environment will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of quality control inspection tools.
  • Understanding the hierarchy and application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) will be considered an asset.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 6S will be considered an asset.
  • Machinist or Tool and Die Maker Red Seal will be considered an asset.
