Position Summary:



The Assistant Project Assessment Coordinator will work with a team to facilitate the Wet'suwet'en assessment and decision-making process for major projects proposed on Wet'suwet'en Yintah (territory). The Natural Resources department advocates for culturally sustainable development and facilitates Wet'suwet'en Decision-making processes for the Clans and Houses, on proposed water and land-based activities. This position requires someone with excellent organizational, facilitation, administrative and communication skills. The Assistant Project Assessment Coordinator will assist the Natural Resources department in achieving success with their projects and initiatives by performing these duties.

Roles and Responsibilities:



Reporting to and working with the Project Assessment Coordinator, the Assistant Project Assessment Coordinator will:

Work with staff and consultants to deliver the Wet'suwet'en Assessment and Decision-process, including reviewing plans, studies and reports, and facilitating associated Clan engagements (House meetings, Clan meetings, interviews, focus groups, site tours, etc.); Engage with government and industry to ensure adequate project information is being provided for the Wet'suwet'en Assessment, and that regulatory timelines are aligned with Wet'suwet'en Assessment and Decision-making timelines; Engage with Wet'suwet'en leadership to convey important decisions and events Work with Clan Liaisons and administrative staff to advertise and organize clan engagements, with a focus on outreach to maximize participation from Wet'suwet'en members; Identify project needs and the corresponding resources and actions required to address those needs; Work closely with project teams to manage work plans; convene and coordinate through regular team meetings and project management tasks; Develop communications and, where warranted, decision support tools (i.e., briefing notes, presentations, memos, monthly status reports, discussion papers, etc.) for supervisors, leadership and/or Clan members; Support the Project Assessment Coordinator in securing and implementing Project Assessment Agreements; Complete accurate record keeping (meeting minutes), file and document management; Utilize OW financial system for processing payments; Keep track of expenses and regularly update budgets Other tasks necessary for coordination of a project as directed by the Lead Project Assessment Coordinator.

Qualifications:



Clean Criminal Record Check. Province of BC Driver's License. Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field and/or relevant experience coordinating complex projects and initiatives. Previous work with Indigenous communities and/or substantial knowledge of Indigenous rights, title, and governance structures. Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Sharepoint, Outlook)

Preferred Skills:



A strong desire to grow and pursue leadership positions An understanding of Wet'suwet'en culture, history, and values Excellent oral and written communication. Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting, preferably coordinating, and overseeing multidisciplinary teams. Experience working with both internal teams and external teams working to a common goal. Experience organizing, facilitating, and documenting both virtual and in-person meetings. Self-motivated with strong time management and ability to meet strict deadlines. Experience working in a fast-paced environment where priorities and schedules can shift quickly. Manage multiple tasks and projects with competing deadlines. Building trust and support within project teams, communities and amongst leadership. Flexible and able to work with community members and, as warranted, leadership outside of regular office hours (i.e., evenings and weekends). Experience working with sensitive or confidential material
