Work Status: Full-Time
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

About the Role:
Global News is looking for a full-time National Online Correspondent to join their team. Reporting to the Managing Editor of Investigative and Enterprise News, the successful candidate would be responsible for creating and publishing investigative and/or enterprise news content to GlobalNews.ca. This role will primarily be working Monday-Friday during regular business hours but may on occasion be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:

• Pitch, research, write and publish exclusive investigative and/or enterprise stories with a focus on accountability and in the public interest.
• Steer complex stories with sensitive legal issues through the editing and legal vetting process to ensure our journalism is both courageous and responsible.
• Self-directed filing and following up on ATIP and Freedom of Information Requests.
• Inspire and execute complex stories that include other team members, leveraging assets across platforms.
• Remain vigilant of the competition - local and international - and scour news for small stories that might turn into big ones.
• Consistently exercise sound judgement in assessing and following up on well-grounded tips and communicating with editors about them
• File stories of exceptional quality that require relatively little substantive editing
• Manage a broad array of trusted and proven sources.
• Use constructive criticism to improve one\'s craft.
• Collaborate with and mentor promising reporters on stories of significance across the Global News Network

Skills and Experience you will bring:

• Post-secondary education in journalism, communications or a related field.
• Significant experience having work published by major news outlets in Canada and/or internationally.
• Proven ability as an investigative or enterprise writer with a unique talent for compelling storytelling
• Experienced eye for anticipating and addressing legal concerns.
• Proven track record of journalism that offers a distinct competitive edge.
• Commanding knowledge of the Freedom of Information request system at various governmental levels in Canada
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience working with several internal and external stakeholders on various projects.
• Self-starter with a strong, enterprising work ethic who is also happy to be collaborative.
