Reporting to the Online Supervisor, you will be part of a team of dedicated reporters responsible for keeping the Global News website current and relevant by writing original stories and curating Global News content. This position involves a variety of shifts including early mornings, days, evenings, permanent weekends, and holidays. This is a Group F position in the current collective agreement.You will contribute by:(Note: The following highlights the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities that can be assigned)

  • Pitching, chasing and writing stories for Globalnews.ca with a focus on Alberta.
  • Generating original story ideas.
  • Managing and curating the front page of the Global Edmonton and Calgary websites.
  • Publishing video content to websites and social media channels.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and experience you bring:
  • Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a similar role.
  • Familiar with online publishing tools/content management systems (e.g. WordPress).
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills.
  • Strong knowledge of social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.
  • Video editing experience is considered an asset.
  • A firm grasp of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press style guidelines is considered an asset.
  • Ability to handle the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines in a high-tech environment.
  • Proven ability as a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Self-starter with solid communication skills.
