About the Role:

Global News is looking for a Graphic Technologist to join their team. Reporting to the National Manager of Brand and Design, the successful candidate would be responsible to continue defining the look of news content on all platforms. The ideal candidate has a creative flair with a strong visual sense that will have a big impact as an integral member of an award-winning News Design Team. If you are passionate about news, motion design and 3D animation and can demonstrate your talents and exceptional graphic skills as part of your portfolio, this role may be for you! This is a Group 4 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:

• Supporting news editorial, live control room and post-production in the set-up and support of graphic templates, data integration and automated graphic production and playout.
• Bringing ideas to life through design, working with stakeholders to create a shared vision for their projects, and working as the technical expert, leading the design team in the creation of data driven graphic templates.
• Strong programming skills for the integration of data driven graphic displays.
• Delivering high standard and quality of work on time.
• Meeting stakeholder expectations on project assignments.
• Collaborating as a member of a high functioning team.
• Delivering large volumes or work/projects on time.

• Conceptualizing and creating daily news graphics and maintaining show branding for various programs and digital platforms.
• Integrating data for broadcast graphic systems playout.
• Perform other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring:

• A University degree or equivalent post-secondary education in Graphic Design or Media Arts
• Possess a combination of creative and technical skills with hands on abilities in Adobe CC, data integration, programming and graphic playout systems.
• Expert knowledge of media production processes and on-air graphic technologies.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with hardware and software.
• Expert knowledge of graphic and digital production workflows with strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve design related issues.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with tight deadlines.
• A strong creative flair to conceptualize and create daily news graphics and maintain show branding for various programs and digital platforms.
• Programming and scripting abilities required for data integration and playout for broadcast graphic systems.
• Strong visual sense with the ability to take original ideas from concept to completion.
• You are confident in your creative ability and have a keen drive to stay up to date with new and constant changes in graphic software, current design methods and practices.
• Must have leadership qualities to give and take direction.
• Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, Ross Xpression, VizRT or equivalent graphics generator.
• Expert level scripting and programming skills for the integration of data driven graphic displays.
• Must be able to work various shifts as required.
