National Director Agriculture, Canadian Agriculture Banking

Purpose

The National Director Agriculture will lead a team of Agricultural Banking Specialists across Canada ensuring business strategies, targets. plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
This position reports to the VP & National Head Canadian Agriculture and will manage a team of direct reports.
Accountabilities

Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Leads the development of the National Agriculture Specialist team by:


  • Developing strategic and tactical proposals that align the team with the overall National Ag Strategy\xe2\x80\x99s key objectives including all financial and non-financial targets as allocated;
  • Lobbying internal and external stakeholders to obtain buy-in and secure resources to proceed with policy amendments that further the team\xe2\x80\x99s role as part of the overall National Ag team;
  • Contributing to revenue and sales Plans/Forecasts for all distribution channels, standard profitability objectives for each product, and reviewing business line performance across a range of relevant metrics;
  • Maintaining a superior knowledge of the competitive landscape to ensure alignment of strategy, operations and marketing programs

Develops and leads the implementation of tactical plans to support the overall strategy for the Agriculture Banking area and the achievement of the business objectives by:

  • Leading the sales effort to achieve the overall profit plan goals nationally
  • Reviewing input from a variety of sources including team members, customers, competitive intelligence, etc. (driven by marketing segmentation and portfolio management);
  • Conceptualizing objectives and prioritizing initiatives;
  • Anticipating and planning for potential risks and opportunities;
  • Obtaining input from Ag Market Leads and/or other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation;
  • Deploying/engaging resources to support the strategies (i.e., reassigning complement, contracting services from Shared Services, etc.);
  • Motivating and focusing the efforts of the Ag Market leads;
  • Acting decisively in order to move things forward in a timely manner;
  • Escalating issues/obstacles/trends to the VP & National Head Canadian Agriculture as appropriate and with recommendations/solutions;

Leads a cohesive, empowered and high-performance team to support business objectives by:

  • Providing strong leadership, maximizing available resources, motivating and mentoring individuals and team;
  • Championing, by example, autonomy and independence coupled with clear expectations of engagement and performance; defining meaningful objectives, driving a true sense of purpose, contribution, and real empowerment; and providing opportunities for significant input;
  • Recruiting, building and sustaining a team of highly motivated, performance oriented individuals, who will continue to develop and share accountability;
  • Promoting, cross-training and coaching development through courses, career changes, project challenges;
  • Fostering a culture of open and honest communication by actively leveraging and contributing to one-on-one touch-bases and team meetings, encouraging new ideas and actively sharing knowledge;
  • Recognizing and celebrating performance and manage non-performance.

Directs the development of risk optimized policies and procedures for Agriculture Lending products by:

  • Identifying growth opportunities that fit within the optimal risk-reward balance and recommending initiatives to implement;
  • Partnering with GRM and other key stakeholders to explore opportunities to enhance the Agriculture risk profile, to allow Small Business to originate larger transactions.
  • Leading the creation of analysis to facilitate the development of risk-reward strategies that will drive growth in assets, revenue and/or profitability for the agriculture portfolio while maintaining an optimal risk-reward balance;
  • Ensuring approved policy and procedure enhancements leverage growth opportunities, mitigate risk and provide operational efficiencies.
  • Drive the execution and operationalization of policy and process enhancements.

Understand how the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Dimensions:

  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of the Small Business and Commercial segment, including policies and processes, servicing model, distribution channels and products
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian Banking strategy and business objectives
  • Thorough knowledge on a wide range of current market delivery systems, new and emerging technologies
  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize a number of concurrent objectives
  • Strong influencing and communication skills to influence all levels of the organization
  • Solid leadership skills with an ability to identify challenges, recommend options and solutions within specific timeframes
  • Excellent understanding of the Bank\'s informal/formal organization structure from both EO and field perspectives
  • Desire and ability to effectively challenge senior leaders on breaking paradigms, while maintaining strong relationships and representing the team
  • Thorough Knowledge of Sales Management tactics and strategies
  • Expert knowledge of branch operations, retail and small business environments including policies and processes
  • Thorough knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software applications

Education / Experience / Other Information:


  • University degree - Business focus preferred
  • MBA or equivalent experience preferred
  • 5-10 years of management experience (ideally in business)
  • Strong sales management skills
  • Expert knowledge of sales management techniques
  • Expert Business and Business Banking products / services knowledge.
  • Expert knowledge of financial / risk analysis techniques, credit adjudication, and the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s lending policies and procedures.
  • Specific regulatory or compliance knowledge.
  • Ability to travel as required, domestically
  • Ability to work non-standard business hours as required
