Job Title Senior Director, Group Risk Management, Canadian Banking \xe2\x80\x93 Personal Banking & Investments (PBI)




































What is the Opportunity? As part of the Group Risk Management team, the Senior Director, Group Risk Management (GRM) will provide counsel to business partners, act as Risk Management SME for the PBI, ensuring risks inherent in new or amended products, initiatives, strategies, policies, processes and systems are efficiently and accurately identified, assessed, mitigated, controlled and monitored, while maintaining and/or optimising the risk reward balance. The ideal candidate will report to the Vice President, Risk Policy & Governance, GRM, Canadian Banking, and will act as a key relationship partner to ALL PBI businesses by adding value through specific business expertise and recommendations. What will you do?

  • Provide counsel to business partners. Act as Risk Management SME for the PBI, ensuring risks inherent in new or amended products, initiatives, strategies, policies, processes and systems are efficiently and accurately identified, assessed, mitigated, controlled and monitored, while maintaining and/or optimising the risk reward balance. This includes assessing the processes and methodologies used in determining the underlying level of risk and the use of tools to identify risks.
  • Act as a key relationship partner to ALL PBI businesses by adding value through specific business expertise and recommendations.
  • Oversight and effective challenge of risk appetite, contribute to development of metrics and establish thresholds for efficient oversight of same.
  • Act as Risk Management SME for select initiatives or projects; contributing to development of same while ensuring risks are effectively identified, assessed, mitigated, controlled, and monitored, while maintaining and/or optimizing the risk reward balance.
  • Review and understand PBI portfolio performance, key metrics, and risk appetite, including measures that are reportable to the Board of Directors. Identifies areas for further consideration or review; recommends actions and changes as appropriate. Liaise with Enterprise Risk on key metrics and risk appetite measures that impact the Enterprise level risk appetite.
  • Ensure regulatory and compliance requirements and expectations are being promptly and adequately addressed with prudent oversight
  • Monitor external events, relevant industry practices and the business environment, as well as internal changes / developments to identify emerging risks and evaluate impact of industry and/or regulatory changes.
  • Seen as a trusted and respected partner by key stakeholders in the Business and supporting functions; add value through expertise and a solution mindset with win / win outcomes.
  • Represent GRM in cross-functional teams, meetings, etc. Foster strong working relationships with all business partners.
  • Champion adherence to risk frameworks as per Enterprise Risk Policies, ensure business partners are aware of impacts and requirements.
  • Provide product specific and industry insights to Senior Management in GRM and key partners in Investor Relations for Board and/or Investor presentations, as needed.
  • Provide back-up for the Vice President CB Retail, as required.
What do you need to succeed? Must Have:
  • Strong experience in risk management, with a solid understanding of the everyday banking and investments business (GICs, Mutual Funds), distribution channels, as well product economics.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in financial services, having recent senior level positions, and a full awareness of the strategic issues and opportunities facing the industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, innovate and make strategic decisions.
  • Strong people management skills (& collaboration) with a proven ability to lead a team of highly talented individuals and deliver results.
  • University degree in a quantitative field of study (e.g., statistics, economics, business) \xe2\x80\x93 to demonstrate ability for critical thinking & numerical analytics
Nice-to-Have:
  • Ability to generate unique, actionable insights & recommendations from analytics and use strong presentation skills to develop a compelling business case for them in from of senior management
  • Experience in developing a Test & Learn Environment and knowledge of designing & executing comprehensive Foundational Testing
  • Extensive experience with application processing & credit scoring platforms
  • Masters Degree in a quantitative field or MBA or equivalent degree
