We are looking for an enthusiastic writer/social media coordinator to join our team. They will produce and broadcast our content (editorial/advertorial) to our audience in engaging, interactive ways including video reels . You will have a sharp eye for detail and have a passion for storytelling and accuracy. You are proactive, creative and independent, while collaborating with your colleagues at PTBOCanada who are equally passionate about Peterborough.
Reporting to the Editor and Owner, you will deliver compelling and accurate stories for PTBOCanada's website and social media platforms. You will tell stories using a variety of tools, programs and techniques while adapting to evolving technologies.
This opportunity involves handling text copy, video, images, audio and interactive multimedia for our audience. You must be a self-starter, able to handle responsibilities and meet daily deadlines.
Job Responsibilities:
Build the brand through creative, compelling approaches to content creation/storytelling
Writing copy stories/blogs/Featured Posts, filming/editing video, interviewing for stories and establishing a social media presence
Connect with others through a variety of platforms to engage and share other peoples' stories with multimedia
Broadcasting content on all our social media with uplifting, entertaining, playful content and positivity (Instagram, Threads, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok)
Discuss story ideas and assignments with the Editor and Owner in story meetings
Revise and edit content before publishing, and double-/triple-check accuracy/grammar
Creativity to broadcast content in exciting and innovative ways including video/reels
Work with clients and organized with following best practices with paid content on social media platforms
Have a passion for Peterborough and the Kawarthas & community
Qualifications
Critical thinking and strong news/entertainment judgement
Knowledge of Canadian Press-style writing
Ability to package and compile online news stories
Ability to manage and adapt to large volumes of fast-moving information
Good communication skills
Flexibility with work hours weekdays and some weekends
Knowledge of Squarespace, picture and video-editing software is an asset
Writing, English, Journalism/Communications/Marketing degree (or equivalent), one year (preferred)

Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
