Summary The Mine Rescue and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator will report directly to the Health and Safety Supervisor and will be an integral member of the Health and Safety team responsible for continual improvement and management of all aspects of Emergency Response and Preparedness for the Keno Hill operation.

Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.0 million ounces of silver in 2024 as the mine ramps up production. Here\xe2\x80\x99s what you can expect in this role:

  • Provide strong safety leadership and champion the emergency response program at Keno Hill.
  • Manage training, equipment, and records for the Mine Rescue Team.
  • Instruct Mine Rescue Basic Training, Coordinator (Briefing Officer) Training, Incident Management Team Training, and other specialized emergency response training.
  • Assume the role of Mine Rescue Coordinator in the case of an emergency and train and mentor others to fill the role.
  • Develop, implement, and manage all emergency procedures for underground, mill, surface and camp risks.
  • Develop training modules and assist in training site employees and contractors on emergency response procedures including but not limited to underground fires, surface fires, serious injuries, hazardous materials incidents, fire extinguisher use, etc.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Incident Management Team Procedures and Training.
  • Participate and/or lead emergency response drills at the required frequency and compile accurate reports to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement of the emergency response program.
  • Facilitate and participate in risk assessments to identify the emergency procedures, equipment and training required to support the operation.
  • Routinely inspect and manage the preventative maintenance requirements for all emergency response equipment and tools. This includes but is not limited to: mine rescue team equipment, refuge stations, escapeways, self rescuers, first aid and AED equipment, eye wash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems and fire alarm systems.
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements for an emergency response program are met.
  • Participate in daily toolbox and weekly safety meetings.
  • Work as a member of the Health and Safety Team to promote safety initiatives and provide support to the operating and maintenance departments.

Qualifications

  • 5 + years of experience working in an underground mine.
  • 2 + years experience as a mine rescue instructor.
  • 5 + years experience as a mine rescue team member.
  • Certification to instruct Standard First Aid and CPR C and First Responder.
  • Emergency response experience in an industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of health and safety management systems and OHS legislation is a requirement.
  • Proven communication skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite \xe2\x80\x93 Word, Excel, and Power Point.

  • Assisting Management by supporting change to achieve desired targets.
  • Ensuring that plant and equipment operate within their safe working limits.
  • Ensuring that correct equipment is used for the job.
  • Participating in risk assessment methodology.
  • Participating in safety initiatives.
  • Receiving training and instruction as required.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards

Work Environment and Job Schedule

Employees will be frequently exposed to; outside weather conditions, snow conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is occasionally loud. This position will require you to work a rotating shift of 14 days on and 14 days off and you will be provided camp housing and meals.
