The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate project cost estimates, analyzing project specifications, ensuring that all aspects of the project are considered and ensure successful project execution. This role requires a strong understanding of construction estimating processes, strong analytical skills, project management capabilities, and proficiency in Excel. The Estimator will play a critical role in bidding process, project planning, and ensuring competitive pricing for our projects.
Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Review project plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine scope of work and identify potential challenges or cost-saving opportunities.
Analyze blueprints, architectural drawings, specifications, and other documentation to develop comprehensive project scopes.
Calculate cost estimates, time, and labour required to fabricate and install the millwork.
Prepare detailed shop drawings with accurate and clearly labelled measurements, guides, materials, finishes, and specifications.
Determine the quantity and types of materials need for the project
Obtain quotes and negotiate prices with suppliers and subcontractors for materials, finishes, hardware, and services.
Collaborate with project managers to assess project requirements and timelines.
Collaborate and coordinate with the millwork production team to ensure design feasibility, provide necessary clarifications during the manufacturing process, and relay design changes, modifications, or special considerations that may arise during the project.
Conduct site visits to gather relevant data for accurate estimating, if required.
Maintain organized records of estimates, revisions, and correspondence related to bids.
Experience
Proven experience in millwork estimating, with a strong background in commercial or heavy civil projects preferred.
Strong understanding of millwork manufacturing processes, assembly techniques, and materials.
Ability to accurately interpret architectural and interior design drawings and specifications.
Demonstrated ability in negotiation with vendors, subcontractors, and clients to secure favorable terms.
Strong understanding of construction processes, materials pricing, labor rates, and project management principles.
Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail in price calculations and bid preparation.
Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail to produce precise estimates under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for collaboration with team members and clients.
