Position Overview Student and Enrolment Services invites applications for a Marketing and Communications Specialist. This Full-time Limited Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. Under the direction and supervision of the Director, Student Experience Strategy, Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will develop and implement short-term and long-term marketing and communication strategies for programs coordinated by the Marketing and Communications unit, potentially in support of all eighteen SES units. While this position is a generalist role, by design, the primary unit (client group) supported is Student Services. Student Services is focused on ensuring a successful experience for students from orientation to graduation. The focus of this role is ensuring that students have timely, relevant, and accurate information about programs and services that are available on campus. This includes but is not limited to: Orientation, Life Design, Leadership, Food Security, and other programming.
Position Description Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Projects undertaken are managed effectively, on time, on budget and aligned with SES marketing and communications strategic goals
  • Effective multitasking skills are used to juggle many projects at once and prioritize appropriately
  • Results oriented and takes initiative to identify areas for improvement as well as potential solutions
  • SES unit partners are courteously provided with information, advice and assistance for their marketing and communication needs
  • Services meet the continuously changing needs of the Marketing and Communications team and SES
  • Develop highquality, accurate communication materials with timely, relevant, accurate and creative content
  • Comfortably and effectively work with many different communication tools and content targeting many different audiences.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, both orally and in written formats
  • In consultation with SES departments/units and other appropriate stakeholders, assist in the development and implementation of an effective and focused marketing and communications plans, which result in communication initiatives (paper or electronic) that reflect institutional key messages and brand, and therefore support the University\'s strategic objectives
  • Make recommendations based on available funding to effectively achieve goals and monitor expenditures related to communication and marketing
  • Develop and write quality and timely communication materials, both print and online
  • Research and write news releases, submissions for various university publications, student success stories, and newsletter articles as required
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with stakeholders on and off campus
  • Oversee the production, design, printing, and delivery of publications
  • Conduct a regular review of client websites and ensure websites are up to date.
  • Work with website development individuals to ensure SES communications projects are implemented
  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:
  • A related university degree and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the communications and marketing field, particularly around strategic communications planning and implementation
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, visual design and production and project management
  • Experience in producing and working in a variety of communication vehicles aimed at various internal and external audiences
  • Communications experience in a large complex organization
  • Excellent knowledge of post-secondary educational issues
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels, and with design, communications and printing services
  • Ability to work to deadlines while managing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with constantly shifting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and with a web content management system (CMS)
  • Experience managing social media accounts for medium to large organizations
  • A demonstrated understanding of graphic design principles, as well as some graphic design skills and experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
