Overview

Under direction of the Senior Manager, Safety, Health and Wellness, the Manager, Health & Safety Programs and Standards is responsible for managing the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of organizational health and safety policies, programs and standards to support workplace health and safety throughout all WorkSafeBC work locations. This is an exciting and dynamic role tasked with overseeing enhancements to health and safety for our people, facilities and stakeholders. The position provides leadership and direction to assigned staff and is responsible for development, coordination, delivery, promotion and maintenance of all aspects of WorkSafeBC's Organizational Health and Safety Program.

What you'll do

As a Manager, Health & Safety Programs and Standards you will:

  • Ensure organizational health and safety policies, programs and standards are developed, implemented and evaluated based on appropriate prevention and risk management priorities.
  • Conduct or direct research to identify and characterize health and safety hazards and risks, evaluate the Organizational Health and Safety Program and processes, and prepares reports of findings with recommendations for action including associated costs analysis.
  • Promote a service-oriented approach in providing services to internal customers
  • Ensure that necessary administrative and technical resources and services are available to support staff in doing their work
  • Promote the strategies and objectives of WorkSafeBC and the division within and outside of the organization
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Lead by demonstrating the required behaviours, attitudes and mindset to further enhance and champion an organizational wide health and safety culture.
  • Work closely with divisional leadership to jointly develop health and safety strategies, programs and initiatives and implement in their respective work locations.
  • Ensure health and safety programs and standards are assessed, audited and continually improved.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the field of organizational health and safety by reviewing relevant materials and journals and maintaining appropriate professional contacts.
  • Create a supportive and healthy working environment within the team by providing support, ensuring effective communication, promoting teamwork, providing opportunities for staff involvement in planning and recognizing employees' contributions and achievements.
  • Travel on occasion
Your experience and educational background:
  • University degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline and minimum 6 years of experience managing a diverse organizational health and safety program in a multi-site organization, plus the following:
  • Excellent working knowledge of BC OH&S regulations and standards
  • Experience in developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating occupational health and safety management systems and platforms
  • Education and experience in developing health and safety training strategies and programs
  • Accreditation as an OH&S Professional (i.e. CRSP) would be an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience in Occupational Health and Safety may be considered
