Retail Operations Manager (6-month term) Imagine yourself at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. A truly unique tourist destination located in the heart of Calgary, Alberta, each year we host over 1.2 million visitors through daily gate admissions and pre-booked events. We are looking for a temporary full-time Retail Operations Manager to oversee a multi-million dollar operation that includes multiple on-site venues as well as an online presence. Our Retail Operations consists of two permanent year-round gift shops, multiple pop-up gift shops during high season, a ride program, a rental program, and an online store. The ideal candidate will utilize their advanced merchandising skills and experience with multi-finder purchasing to drive sales and customer satisfaction in all areas. With the support of the Assistant Manager, Retail Operations, they will be a strong leader to a team of Customer Service Representatives Contract Term:

  • 6-month term with the possibility of extension
What you will do:
  • Main point of contact for all suppliers and brokers for the procurement of goods and services while ensuring the best product and prices
  • Direct the purchasing and receipt of all retail stock required by all retail locations and ensure that all locations are well stocked and displayed in ways most conducive to drive sales
  • Oversee the management of all retail warehouse spaces including storage, handling, transfers, and inventory
  • Consult with other zoo departments in the provision of good and services to assist in the delivery of their activities and events
  • Manage the budget for all retail locations including setting of revenue targets through annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting
  • Analyze sales data and use data to drive decisions regarding prices, sales, and product changes
  • Manage a team of employees including recruitment, training, retention, recognition, performance management, and formal evaluations
  • Manage labour cost through effective scheduling and monitoring/approval of timesheets
Ensure protection of all inventories by ensuring compliance with cash handling policies and security policies and updating as required
  • Build a culture of superior customer service for all customers both internal and external
  • Oversee operations of the ride program including the Wildlife Carousel and Train
  • Oversee operations of the rental program including rental of wagons, wheelchairs, and power chairs for zoo guests
  • Support a culture of health and safety by ensuring compliance with the organization\xe2\x80\x99s Health and Safety program
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Business/Commerce, Sales, a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 related experience in retail services leading a multi-million-dollar operation
  • Advanced merchandising skills and experience with multi-finder purchasing
  • Demonstrated abilities related to business planning, budgeting, training/staff development, and human resource management
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement while contributing and participating in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and manage with minimum supervision within defined guidelines
Working Conditions:
  • Flexible schedule including requirement to work on weekends
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Heavy lifting, walking, and standing for long periods of time required
