Our Team:

The Mine Design and Infrastructure Systems team is accountable for leading technical professional mining engineers, and specialists in the safe design of underground mine development, stope geometry, ore extraction schedule and in the design and sustainability of systems necessary for production required by the mine sites.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Manager of Mine Design and Infrastructure Systems to join our Mining Design and Infrastructure team supporting the operation of our North Atlantic mines. This is a permanent position based in Sudbury, Ontario.

This role is accountable for ensuring designs directly support the management of critical risks in the underground environment. This function must confirm designs deliver systems that are compliant with the legislative requirements unique to provincial mining legislation as well as Vale standards and guidelines.

This function will consolidate the provincial Life of Mine Plans and direct the systems and templates used to create the site-specific plans. The role has the technical authority for the standardization of the digital toolset employed across the mines to efficiently and transparently optimize the value extracted from our natural resources.

Additionally, in this position you will be accountable for:

  • Ensuring the optimization and correct management of mineral reserves and resources through production plans and cut-off application, mine sequencing and development planning and designing key infrastructure (ventilation, electrical, backfill & services) aspects and the disposal of waste in mines, as well as technical and economic feasibility studies for the mines, including equipment selection and sizing, as required by mine sites.
  • Single source of reporting for the consolidated mines business data (production, headcount, and costs) and coordination of non-mine business data (overhead, processing costs).
  • Confirming the technical and economic feasibility, constructability, and operability of each operation.
  • Ensuring the development of mine plans which are according to technical standards, deadlines, costs, quality, environmental standards, occupational safety and health, risk tolerance, and socio-economic requirements as prescribed by the company.
  • Enabling process alignment with Projects, Reliability, Asset Integrity, Ops, and MTS to develop and/or ensure there are standards and guidelines for the infrastructure design to support the mine design, planning and Life of Mine Planning process.
  • Engaging operations and technical experts to design and model infrastructure systems to deliver our mine plans as required.
  • Assemble and maintain a motivated and high-performance team, being a key focal point between technical/operating areas and mining complexes.
About You

Education:
  • Degree in Mining with a P. Eng.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in Life of Mine Planning and execution.
Skills:
  • Knowledge of mining standards and guidance documents.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills, including mentoring and coaching skills.
