Job Description

Are you an educator who is passionate about helping people learn, grow, and develop new skills and knowledge to increase success in their careers? We are looking to add a highly talented Manager of Learning & Development to our BURNCO Team, reporting to the VP HR. In this new role, you will be a strategic partner and advisor in all areas of BURNCO's safety training, career development, and leadership development programs including developing dynamic and effective training materials and courses, setting up and managing an online Learning Management System, and partnering with external training providers.

Effective and comprehensive adult education is the cornerstone of a high-performing safe team where people are invested in and see future career development paths. We are looking for someone who knows that for training programs to be effective you need to know your audience and provide them with the information they need in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner. They also understand that training needs to be more than just a push of information or "tick-the-box" exercise. Effective training ensures absorption of the new information, tests for competency, and encourages ongoing life-long learning.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Developing and leading a company-wide learning strategy and programs that are aligned with BURNCO's values and strategic objectives
  • Managing all stages of the learning lifecycle including setting the strategy and priorities, curriculum design, content development, delivery, measurement, maintenance, and improvements
  • Gaining a full understanding of our various business units and their specific training requirements and collaborating with subject matter experts, people leaders, and cross-functional teams to perform learning needs assessments in support of achieving organization-wide learning and development objectives
  • Leading the implementation of a new LMS
  • Building content for and managing & maintaining the LMS, including evaluating training completion and pass rates, training time vs. efficiency, user adoption, and emerging trends
  • Being the day-to-day liaison with the LMS vendor and SME for the platform within the organization
  • Leveraging innovative learning technologies including social, mobile, micro-learning and gamification
  • Managing training records and conducting regular training audits
  • Developing a competency framework to support skills development to ensure people are trained to conduct tasks safely and have learning paths for future career development
  • Designing, producing, and facilitating learner-centric training materials and courses based on best practice adult learning principles, both in person and online
  • Testing new learning and development programs with key stakeholders before launching to obtain buy-in and ensure programs meet business needs
  • Supporting people leaders and individual contributors with the achievement of personal learning goals, leveraging internal resources, and/or recommending external resources
  • Collaborating with HR on the creation of a formal leadership development program for current and future leaders
  • Developing a consistent New Hire Orientation program that highlights BURNCO's values and provides vital information required when starting a new role with BURNCO
  • Evaluating current and new programs by reviewing and measuring feedback from participants on the effectiveness and delivery of learning objectives and revising them for ongoing improvements
  • Tracking budgets, negotiating contracts, building and maintaining relationships with third-party training providers, as needed
  • Determining the best methods for creating awareness about learning and development programs
  • Being the principal point of contact for anyone with questions about training and development
  • Fostering a culture of continuous learning across the organization
  • Other duties to support the BURNCO teams and further build their skills.
What We Would Like From You
  • Education - A bachelor's degree in Education or related program. Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP)(TM) or Certified Training Practitioner(TM) (CTP) designation is preferred.
  • Professional Experience - You have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a senior-level learning & development and facilitator role managing company-wide programs. Experience working with safety-sensitive industries is preferred.
  • Knowledge - You understand adult education program delivery trends and best practices.
  • Systems Expertise - You have experience working with online Learning Management Systems and can connect them to an HRIS to track course completions in personnel files; eLearning content development software; survey tools; and all Microsoft applications.
