About the Role

The Manager, Laboratory Operations is responsible for managing and overseeing the overall operation of research and teaching laboratories, specialized departmental facilities, equipment and building infrastructure for the department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, and the department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology.

Qualifications

Master\'s degree in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry or related discipline and five years related experience in the management of teaching and research laboratories and operations in a university or institutional environment, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of teaching and research standards, science laboratory requirements and configurations.
  • Familiarity with the principles of planning, design and construction of institutional laboratory facilities.
  • Good knowledge of common and specialized scientific laboratory equipment, instrumentation, facilities, operations and procedures in modern biological sciences.
  • Good knowledge of related laboratory health and safety guidelines/regulations (University, Provincial, Federal), risk management assessment, laboratory hazards (e.g., chemicals/pesticides, biologicals, radioisotopes), and safety equipment/procedures.
  • Excellent planning, organizational ability, analytical reasoning, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex policies and procedures.
