Summary

Want to use your people management and critical thinking skills in the fast paced environment of Canada\'s largest biotech company? As Manager, Lab Operations you will provide leadership support for our Research and Development (R&D) lab function and team. Our lab management team is responsible for the delivery of lab safety and training curriculum and day to day administration of common supplies and lab equipment for our R&D department labs.

You will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to deliver a safe, scalable, high performing scientific lab operations facility for STEMCELL\'s R&D lab users.



Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of lab operation managers and associates, report to the R&D Senior Leadership Committee on the laboratory operational effectiveness and execution of projects and goals, and work in close partnership with Corporate EH&S, Facilities, and R&D scientists to develop solutions for daily lab operations

Direct lab operation training programs, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and service in order to ensure adherence of all required lab safety procedures, protocols, and maintenance tasks and compliance of Quality Management Systems (eQMS)

Responsible for day-to-day lab operational activities, including shared lab budgets, support of the CAPEX program, and inventory of reagents, consumables, and other lab supplies

Oversee lab operation risk identification and mitigation support for operational issues, and lead change management activities

Accountable for the procurement, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment, including daily upkeep, routine quality control and troubleshooting, and scheduling of preventative maintenance, as well as administering the electronic data management systems

Knowledge and Qualifications

BSc or MSc in Life Sciences with 7-10+ years of relevant experience in a similar role within the Biotechnology industry required

4+ years of leading and managing a team in a lab-based function and team essential, with practical knowledge of change management practices and project management principles highly desirable

Comprehensive understanding of laboratory regulatory standards (such as Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)) and compliance requirements (such as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and International Organization Standardization (ISO), within a laboratory environment is needed, as is familiarity with CAPEX and budget accountability

Extensive experience purchasing equipment, supplies, and consumables within a laboratory environment required

Experience in the development of laboratory SOPs, risk management strategies, and lab user training content will be useful

The annual base salary for this job ranges from: $95,200.00 - $142,800.00

STEMCELL determines an individual\'s pay within the range based on multiple factors including experience, education, job-related skills, and equity within the team or organization. For jobs that are eligible for sales incentives, the range noted above is inclusive of target incentives; actual incentives are based on individual performance results in accordance with company policy. In addition to base salary, STEMCELL offers a comprehensive total rewards package including health benefits, retirement savings, and more.
