Collaborating with departmental managers and functional Heads (i.e. Business Development, Human Resources, Finance, Medical Scientific, Quality, etc.), the Senior Manager is responsible for overall people leadership, developing operational plans, multi-year capital plans, and managing the budget.The Senior Manager maintains business contacts and develops relationships with external organizations and affiliated laboratories and regions in order to identify new operational opportunities. The role must ensure Laboratory Operations\' organizational structure and employee capabilities meet present and future needs and must develop talent and maintain succession planning processes to ensure that the organization sustains operational growth in a cost-effective manner.Core AccountabilitiesResponsible for team leadership and development.

  • Support the development, training and coaching of Managers and Supervisors, including selection, onboarding, training, performance management and development.
  • Overall day-to-day operation of the department, including planning, coordination, evaluation and supervision of all technical and/or operational activities and management of all employees in the department.
  • Implement succession plans and ensure development of a high-performance teams.
Responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a national strategy for high volume and mid-low Chemistry and Hematology at IRL and Kennedy Laboratories at LifeLabs.
  • Complete competitive / business environment research and benchmarking to determine emerging issues and trends and analyze the impact / implications of those trends on various strategic plans.
  • Develops the annual business plan including setting objectives and targets, developing strategies for integration of new business, and initiating, developing, and leading special projects.
  • Lead planning and execution of cross-functional projects that support annual operations and strategic initiatives. \xe2\x80\xa2 Develops multi-year strategies, capital, and operating budgets.
In collaboration with Director of Laboratory Operations, develop annual budget plan aligned to strategic and operational planning and manage budget for laboratory.
  • Provides leadership to ensure that vendors and suppliers continue to meet the needs of the laboratory business. \xe2\x80\xa2 Develops and provides regular reporting on laboratory KPIs.
  • Monitor operational workflows and actions appropriate changes in department, planning workforce to maintain a high level of service.
  • Partner with finance on forecasting, budgeting and financial planning
Responsible for directing relationship management to clinical partners, MedSci, and other stakeholders by guiding communication, public relations, and Government relation strategies
  • Partners with Government Markets, Business Development and other internal stakeholders to develop and implement strategies.
Partners with IT and Lab Ops Technology teams and external stakeholders to develop and implement the technology and systems plan including the implementation of digital and AI strategies to enhance laboratory functionalities.
  • Develops long term strategy for the implementation of technology.
  • Participates in the planning and acquisition of all new equipment and technology to ensure the delivery of timely, quality results.
  • Develops plans and oversees implementation of new technologies and equipment.
Works with QA to ensure quality and inspection or regulatory readiness and compliance across the Core disciplines and locations.
  • Overall accountability for compliance with regulatory standards, testing protocols and medical standards; liaising with QA, develops quality plans and strategies
Develops and maintains Business Recovery Plans to ensure the sustainability of the laboratory operations.
  • Accountabilities will also include assessing, measuring and benchmarking performance to internal and external best practice, continually challenging the status quo to improve performance and sustainability of laboratory operations across LifeLabs
Qualifications and Skills
  • College Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent education and experience required. Post-secondary education in Business, MBA or a Health Care disciplne considered an asset
  • Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist designation required, Member of College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Minimum of 6 experience in progressively responsible positions within the laboratory environment.
  • Direct experience in managing large staff numbers and experience with large scale, complex projects.
  • Experience in or understanding of the issues of the diagnostics services industry or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Notes:
  • Demonstrated strong leadership experience in managing complex operations, through supervisor and with direct frontline employees and where there is ambibuity and the need to balance growth initiatives with operational rigor.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving cost savings, improving productivity, quality and overall service in a measurable manner
  • Proven track record for continuous improvement and quality in a hospital, laboratory or production related environment to ensure optimal throughput and workflow.
  • An exhibited commitment to external/internal client care
  • A team player who enjoys developing relationships at all levels of the organization. Must be able to promote collaborative initiatives, and effectively influence change, teamwork and positive results within a highly scientific based diagnostics environment
  • Must have related Regulatory Compliance understanding with focus on quality and managing staff in a regulated environment)
  • Weekly travel between between IRL and Kennedy Labs
