Reporting to the Sales Director, Prepared Meats International, this driven and self-starting Manager - International Commercialization and Portfolio Strategy will lead the development of our portfolio and drive business success across an array of prepared meats categories. With market focuses on Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia (primarily China, Japan, South Korea), this individual is tasked with thinking and acting at global scale, while demonstrating local Maple Leaf Foods expertise.

This role will oversee and lead the Prepared Meats global portfolio and trade, marketing, and export access execution by leading the agenda identified to grow our presence in foreign markets. This role will work closely with the immediate Prepared Meats, International team (Sales Director, Finance Manager, Sr Commercial Execution Manager, Regulatory Manager) and engage frequently with the broader Maple Leaf Foods cross-functional team. The role requires a strong strategic mindset and agile approach to help the team focus its efforts where the rewards will be the greatest.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Lead our international prepared meats product and portfolio strategy, leveraging your expertise across, sales, marketing, category, and product development marrying our MLF capabilities with the needs of foreign markets while mindful of competitive dynamics:
  • Defining product and portfolio spec and positioning
  • International brand management, positioning, and execution
  • Identifying and assessing sources of product advantage (raw material, manufacturing, etc.)
  • Managing Trademark requirements with legal
  • Commercial country/entry market access requirements leader: Develop strong understanding and enablement of country-specific commercial market access requirements
  • Leverage your marketing expertise to develop new products and bring items through the setup funnel, from product formulation to claims-making, to pack design
  • Oversight of export paperwork, samples, and customer setup execution to enable commercial fluidity
  • Sales collateral and strategy leader: support Sales Director with sales, marketing, and brand materials
  • Engage in special projects as required to enable success of this new business unit (exploring innovative ways to increase our competitiveness in global marketplace, traditional sales strategy workstreams and 5P analysis, etc.)
  • As our business grows, this function may offer customer-facing, customer-P&L, and oversees brand ownership oversight

  • Competency requirements:
  • Commercial Acumen and P&L Management - Solid understanding of key drivers of a P&L statement with ability to recommend changes required to move the business forward.
  • Project management - ability to plan and track projects through proactivity and diligence, while managing cross-functional team members
  • Business Understanding and Insights - Demonstrates the ability to understand, manipulate and draw conclusions from internal & external data sources.
  • Sales Knowledge & Connectivity - Demonstrates understanding of customer strategies and motivations and applies to marketing planning process & initiative execution.
  • Strategic Leadership - Demonstrates big picture thinking with an ability to clearly articulate a strategic direction, justified with sound fact-based rationale. Sells ideas and recommendations through to management convincingly.
Assets you could bring
  • Competency in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese
  • International compliance, regulatory, import/export, and trade experience
  • Experience working with perishable CPG categories, ideally meat
  • Prior people management experience
  • Project management certifications/designations
  • Experience building a business from scratch and/or managing complex executions
