Manager, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations

Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Services, we are seeking a full-time, permanent Manager, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations, who will be accountable for supervising the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in an unionized environment, managing overall day to day operations of the inpatient pharmacy, as well as in-clinic pharmacy activities in ambulatory care clinics. The Manager has responsibilities included but not limited to managing human resources and drug distribution activities, maintaining drug inventory and meeting the operation budget, developing/revising and implementing medication management policies and procedures, and participating/chairing various committee(s) and working group(s).

The Manager will ensure safe and efficient patient-centered services in all aspects of dispensing and distribution of medications, and provision of pharmaceutical workup, drug information and educational programs, in compliance with the Accreditation Canada standards, Ontario College of Pharmacists standards of practice, and other federal and provincial legislations. The Manager will also develop new quality improvement initiatives and/or policies to enhance operation safety and efficiencies, in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other clinicians, which align with the hospital's mission, vision, strategic direction, and organizational values.

The Manager will ensure a safe working environment for staff in all situations and will promote collaboration and teamwork among staff. The Manager will foster a healthy work place that embraces diversity, teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position will be located at the Queen Street sites.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have an entry to practice degree in pharmacy (BSc Phm or PharmD). Advanced training (e.g. hospital pharmacy residency) and/or an advanced degree in pharmacy (post-baccalaureate PharmD, or Master's), business (M.B.A.) or health care is preferred. Current registration as a pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists is required (in Part A of the Register). A minimum of three years of experience in hospital pharmacy management is preferred. A demonstrated understanding of complex pharmacy environments (operational, clinical and administrative) is required along with the ability to utilize an array of conceptual, analytical, problem-solving and strategic skills. The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy information systems and technologies; and have a demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in addition to excellent organizational and negotiating skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively within a dynamic team environment. The ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is NOT part of any Bargaining Unit.
