We are seeking a Manager, Industry Relations for the Fort McKay Metis Nation!



The Opportunity:



This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage key industry relationships and drive the successful execution and compliance of Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs) and Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) for the Fort McKay Metis Nation, while fostering sustainability and ensuring financial stewardship.

The Role:



Reporting to the Director of MMSC, the Manager, Industry Relations is responsible for overseeing the execution and stewardship of Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs) and Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) between the Fort McKay Metis Nation (FMMN), industry partners, and government entities. This role ensures compliance, reporting, and the effective management of agreement-related commitments while fostering strong stakeholder relationships and supporting sustainability initiatives. The incumbent will work closely with the Finance Controller/CFO to ensure accurate financial reporting and payment stewardship related to these agreements.

Key Responsibilities:



Agreement Implementation & Compliance



Oversee the implementation, administration, and monitoring of IBAs and LTAs to ensure industry compliance with agreed-upon commitments. Collaborate with industry and government stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships throughout the lifecycle of each agreement. Organize and lead committee meetings as required by the LTAs, ensuring all stakeholders are engaged and informed. Ensure all LTA-related meeting notes are accurately recorded, reported in a timely manner, and that action items are followed up on effectively. Liaise with the Finance Controller/CFO to analyze agreement-related financial matters, including sustainability payments made to the trust. Develop and prepare monthly implementation reports on agreement status, key issues, and financial considerations. Ensure all agreement financial records are accurate, up to date, and compliant with accepted financial practices established by the Finance Controller, CFO, and CEO for the Trust.

Sustainability & Strategic Planning



Lead the development of annual Sustainability Reports covering environmental, economic, and social indicators relevant to the Nation, industry partners, and FMMN members. Support the Director, MMSC, in the execution of sustainability initiatives as outlined in the MMSC Strategic Plan. Advocate for sustainable development practices that minimize economic, cultural, social, and environmental impacts while maximizing benefits for the FMMN. Facilitate the integration of Traditional Knowledge into regulatory processes and project planning to protect and enhance the Metis way of life.

Financial Stewardship & Reporting



Work closely with Finance to develop and report on agreement-related budgets, ensuring financial accountability. Manage project coding, consultant invoicing, and payment follow-ups related to sustainability agreements. Assist in the development of annual budgets and provide monthly financial reports to the Director, MMSC, and President & Council.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement



Act as a liaison between FMMN, industry, and government partners to advocate for community interests and strategic priorities. Coordinate and oversee community meetings, ensuring meaningful engagement and transparent communication. Develop and implement work plans that align with environmental, social, and economic needs of the FMMN. Support community members in understanding and participating in the implementation of agreements. Participate in industry, government, and stakeholder engagement activities to advance the FMMN's sustainability objectives.

Knowledge Management & Policy Development



Maintain and manage a repository of Traditional Knowledge, regulatory submissions, and government policies related to environmental and accommodation matters.

Oversee responses to industry consultation submissions, ensuring timely and thorough engagement.

Contribute to communication strategies, including newsletters, bulletins, and website updates.

Other Duties



Represent FMMN at external meetings, forums, and workshops as assigned. Support additional sustainability initiatives, events, and strategic planning activities as required. Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with FMMN policies, standards, protocols, and procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements:



Education & Experience:



Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Indigenous Studies, Environmental Science, Finance, or a related field. Minimum 5-7 years of experience in agreement management, regulatory affairs, Indigenous relations, or sustainability initiatives. Experience working with Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs), Long-Term Agreements (LTAs), and other industry agreements is highly desirable. Strong background in financial oversight, reporting, and contract compliance.

Technical & Professional Competencies:



Strong understanding of federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory frameworks related to Indigenous rights, environmental policies, and resource development. Knowledge of Metis culture, history, and governance structures. Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial reports, budgets, and contract terms to ensure compliance and financial sustainability. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing strategic reports, regulatory submissions, and stakeholder correspondence. Experience engaging with government, industry, and Indigenous communities to advocate for sustainable development and policy alignment.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:



Strong diplomatic, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills to manage complex multi-stakeholder agreements. Ability to facilitate collaborative discussions between community members, industry partners, and government representatives. Strategic mindset with the ability to develop, implement, and oversee work plans, budgets, and project timelines. Ability to mentor and lead teams of staff, consultants, and community members effectively.

Additional Requirements:



Willingness to travel as needed for meetings, engagements, and negotiations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, financial tracking software, and database management tools. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, as required for community engagement and organizational needs.

Schedule:



Monday to Thursday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, Fridays, 8:30am - 2pm
