Our client is looking for a Manager, Financial Reporting & Compliance for a 6 month contract opportunityAbout the Opportunity
FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ACCOUNTING

  • Planning, organizing, directing and controlling, through subordinates, the financial reporting, accounting and general financial affairs of the division.
  • Maintaining accounting records in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
  • Developing a company best practice approach for the financial management of the company.
  • Reviewing divisional operational results. Interpreting and communicating financial results through the use of the standard financial reporting package, as distributed by the Corporate Finance department, in accordance with the schedule provided. Ensure that divisional financial results are explained completely and accurately, with variances explained and areas of risk identified.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Cambridge Life Sciences Financial reporting is in accordance with Canadian GAAP.
  • Responsible for Cash Forecasting along with Hedging and mitigating any FX risks.
  • Responsible for preparing audit working papers on a quarterly basis, ensuring that all accounts are reconciled.
  • Developing and/or preparing specific financial analysis as assigned by the Director, Finance or General Manager for the effective management of the division and interpretation of results.
  • Coordinate the filing of all necessary government reports and returns.
INTERNAL CONTROL, POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
  • Maintaining the accounting records in a timely, accurate and complete manner in Compliance with SOX internal controls.
  • Ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to in a consistent manner within the division, and that the financial reporting standards are applied consistently. Regularly review policies and procedures to develop a company best practice approach for the financial management of the company.
  • Reviewing and assessing areas of business risk within the division, to develop policies to minimize or eliminate that risk where possible.
  • Liaising with professional advisors on legal, audit and accounting matters as required.
  • Responsible for preparing audit working papers on a quarterly basis, ensuring that all accounts are reconciled.
  • Ensuring the safeguarding of company assets.
HUMAN RESOURCES
  • Developing and managing a plan for ensuring that the financial reporting requirements and internal control requirements are met within the business unit.
  • Developing, mentoring and cross-training personnel, not only to satisfy reporting and control requirements, but also to ensure proper succession planning
  • Foster a positive work environment through the development and support of effective communication processes
  • Provide leadership to the Financial Reporting & Compliance team
  • Monitor staff performance, actively participate in the formal performance reviews and engage in staff development initiatives where appropriate
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the company Code of Business Conduct.
About You
  • Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA) or near completion
  • A minimum of five years of cost accounting experience is required; preferably in a job shop manufacturing or construction environment using the percentage of completion method of accounting.
  • Individual must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization both verbally and in written form.
  • Advanced knowledge of an ERP system (preferably JD Edwards) and Excel are required.
  • In addition, the ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance in a team-oriented work environment is mandatory.
  • Strong analytical, financial reporting and accounting skills as well a continuous improvement orientation are keys.
  • Finally, the person must be hands-on, detail oriented and able to consistently meet deadlines.
