WORK ILLUSTRATION:
Reporting to the Director, Standards, the Manager, Engineering (Grid Standards) is responsible for the effective management of processes and resources for the purpose of providing a range of engineering services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution Power System. The Manager will lead key strategic projects within the Planning, Engineering and Modernization division and the organization as a whole. The incumbent identifies and leads projects for Operations business units, builds and utilizes relationships with internal and external stakeholders, improves processes, and develops decision support and analytics tools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises a team of technical professionals consisting of engineers, analysts, contractors and students to develop technical specifications for equipment, construction standards for all electrical and civil equipment used in Toronto Hydro\xe2\x80\x99s distribution system and training materials for use across Toronto Hydro;
  • Leads technical reviews of proposals from suppliers, contractors and consultants for technical merit and compliance;
  • Builds, fosters and manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders to determine and implement grid modernization strategy
  • Develops business cases and executive level presentations to evaluate, adopt and implement new technologies to advance grid modernization while considering cost/benefits, customer needs, safety, statistical analysis and engineering principles
  • Approves equipment/material to be used in Toronto Hydro distribution system
  • Acts as a change agent in adoption and continual use of standards across organization in design and construction stages
  • Acts as an authority on engineering and technical matters pertaining to Toronto Hydro\xe2\x80\x99s distribution system
  • Represents Toronto Hydro in external meetings and/or committees
  • Leads project management and oversight related to the execution of the strategic roadmap and aligns the roadmap to distribution system plans and regulatory filings
  • Plays a key role in advancing Toronto Hydro\xe2\x80\x99s asset management capabilities and strategic asset management plan, including the ISO 55000 alignment initiative

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred; post graduate degree preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario
  • Ten (10)+ years of experience in utility, electrical, design, or operations environment
  • Three (3)+ years of progressive leadership and/or project leadership experience
  • Valid Class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Drivers License
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification an asset
  • MBA an asset
  • Experience working on strategic initiatives and successfully leading change management in an organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge in process mapping, business case preparation, and executive-level presentations
  • Strong knowledge of best practices for utility engineering planning and asset management best practices
  • Strong understanding of asset management, IT software, including SAP or other Enterprise Systems
  • Experience implementing new technologies
  • Strong understanding of the operations within the organization \xe2\x80\x93 including knowledge of investment planning, procurement, maintenance, and system reliability
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the electrical distribution system and network settings, including distribution system equipment and related technology
  • Ability to develop analytics, with knowledge of the use of Alteryx and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of finance model for capital program \xe2\x80\x93 project budget, expenditures, etc.

Toronto Hydro has introduced a Hybrid Work Arrangement. This position allows for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
