BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.

BIOVECTRA has an opening for a Manager Engineering. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Charlottetown, PEI.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating the definition of project scope, goals, deliverables, project tasks and resource requirements; assigning project staff; overseeing approval of changes and provide intervention to achieve project outputs; perform project evaluations and close-out.
  • Assisting management to assess potential projects, including feasibility, cost analysis, and timelines, and planning to meet long range company goals of facilities and services.
  • Providing engineering and project management expertise and leadership, to achieve program objectives and goals.
  • Working with maintenance department to ensure activities and change controls are conducted effectively and harmoniously between departments.
  • Ensuring engineering projects deliver planned performance and outputs to time, budget commitments and quality specifications by monitoring the project activities, highlighting risks and taking remedial actions as required.
  • Managing the execution of multiple projects and resources, including the design, construction, commissioning and qualification of projects.
  • Leading project delivery on time and on budget, meeting scope and quality objectives, and maintaining a cost-effective management of resources.
  • Working with the Capital Projects Team, collaborating on the selection and design of process equipment, instrumentation, and controls. Oversee the development of layouts for operational and R&D processing, warehousing operations, plant utilities, and other facilities as required, including design review.
  • Facilitating the development and continuity of effective teamwork within the Engineering team, to develop a climate conducive to trust, open communications, mutual goal setting, accountability, and recognition.
  • Ensuring the participation of all relevant stakeholders is maintained throughout project scope development, engineering, installation and qualification, and effective communication occurs to achieve common Company goals.
  • Building and maintaining a staff of highly motivated and knowledgeable professionals; managing staff performance, including appropriate workload assignment and schedules; multi-project prioritization; development of short and long-range goals; improving capabilities through training, development, and mentoring.
  • Promoting a positive team culture; provide coaching and guidance; encourage staff to make decisions on their own, learn, and take appropriate risks.
  • Providing regular and accurate reports to Director, Engineering and Maintenance, inclusive of the evaluation of project progress, budgets with respect to the current and forecast status, budgets, deliverables, timelines, and other successful project management indicators. Identifying potential risks to project delivery and take appropriate remedial action so that objectives are achieved.
  • Developing and submitting annual budget recommendations.
  • Effectively working together with other departments to align project scope, efficiencies, and priorities.
  • Developing and implementing formal policies, standards, and good project management practices to support project implementation.
  • Providing engineering support to the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program related to engineering projects. Maintaining an accurate working knowledge and adherence to all cGMPs, compliance/regulatory mandates, and governmental code requirements as related to equipment.
  • Remaining current with all applicable GMP regulations that relate to the manufacture and distribution of BIOVECTRA products.
  • Providing timely staff performance reviews; identify skill or knowledge gaps and determine the best form of training to achieve optimal results to capitalize on employee\'s strengths.
The successful candidate for this position should have:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Six years engineering experience including pharmaceutical industry specifically API process design, startup, and implementation. Previous supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Proven execution of project management, including timely project delivery, cost control, and customer/scope satisfaction, working with consultants, negotiating contracts and managing contractor activities, using project management techniques and tools
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of project management and project control techniques, including financial analysis, project planning and appraisal, financing, and risk management .
