The Extension and Support Services Branch identifies and promotes agriculture and food production/processing systems that are sustainable and enhance the economic benefits to the province. It maintains operations in all agriculture regions of the province to deliver Ministry programs and services through a network of Regional Agrologists, Land Use Planners, Industry Specialists, and other technical Specialists. The Branch works through a variety of strategic partnerships and is the primary point of contact for the Ministry\xe2\x80\x99s agriculture clients, both businesses and associations. The Branch also provides professional Agrologist support to local government planning and emergency response processes, and to both the Agricultural Land Commission and the Farm Industry Review Board.

The Regional Agrologist is a part of the Regional Development Unit within the Extension and Support Services Branch. The Regional Development Unit is comprised of Professional Agrologists that are the front-line contacts for the Ministry. Programs and initiatives are informed by strong industry and Agrologist expertise and local knowledge, providing broad-based local insight and intelligence critical to the success of the Ministry in meeting current and future objectives.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor\'s Degree or higher from an approved university, preferably specializing in farm business, livestock, crops, or soil management or a related natural resource science (e.g. soil science, ecology) and three (3) years of professional experience; AND
  • Registered as a Professional Agrologist, or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Agrologist, with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists (BCIA).Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Agrologist in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to the BCIA within six (6) months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the BCIA review their qualifications to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration. Registration number will be requested.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience in one (1) or more of the following:
    • Farm business management
    • Soil and/or nutrient management
    • Livestock production
    • Agricultural crop production
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • A degree in Agriculture.
  • Experience in business planning, marketing, and/or economic development.
  • Experience in consensus building, negotiating and conflict resolution. Operational experience in crop or livestock production.
Willingness Statements:
  • Must maintain at least a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC.
  • Conduct field work which may include work outside of regular office hours, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight, outdoor work in all weather conditions, and deployment to emergency operation centers.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until July 31, 2024.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
