Job Summary

The Team:

The Cordilleran Geoscience Section of the British Columbia Geological Survey (BCGS), within the Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals, is a well-established team of 12 geoscientists, ranging from early career to senior staff, working in a collaborative and collegial research environment. This team is dedicated to collecting and analyzing geoscience data through field-based programs, laboratory studies, and regional-scale mapping, with a focus on a wide range of topics such as mineral deposits, tectonics, and critical minerals. Our team works closely with experts in various fields, contributing to projects that play a key role in supporting British Columbia's green economy and sustainable development.

The Role:

As a Mineral Deposit Geologist, you will serve as a specialist to lead and support BCGS projects aimed at enhancing public geoscience knowledge in British Columbia. You will identify areas of high mineral potential, collect geological samples for various analyses, and contribute to studies that expand our understanding of mineral deposits in diverse geological settings across the province. This work provides valuable, evidence-based geoscience to support both the BC government and the public, contributing to responsible mineral exploration and resource development. This position offers the exciting opportunity to combine field mapping with advanced laboratory techniques and be part of a long-standing team of geoscientists that has been shaping BC's geological knowledge since 1895.

Note: immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a P.Geo. in an applicable jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to EGBC within 6 months of employment. Applicants currently registered (or immediately eligible to register) as a Geoscientist in Training (GIT) with EGBC may be considered for this position at a lower classification level (LSO GEO 1B).
• Minimum of a Masters' Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related subject from a university of recognized standing.
• Minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience in geological mapping, mineral exploration, or mining geology.
• Experience with geological field work and/or mapping in remote terrain.
• Experience supervising junior colleagues and assistants.
• Experience working with a broad range of computer software such as MS Office, GIS, graphics packages and databases to produce geological and/or mineral maps and reports.
• Experience giving presentations at conferences or technical meetings.
• Experience in the compilation, evaluation, synthesis and interpretation of various strands of data including geological, geochemical, geochronological and/or geophysical.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

• Experience working with government geoscience programs/field projects; and/or,
• Experience with bedrock geology and mineral deposits of the Canadian Cordillera.

Additional Job Requirements:

• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent.
