Reporting to the terminal manager, the Logistics Specialist is primarily responsible for pairing company resources (equipment and drivers) to system orders while ensuring safety and efficiency at all times. This position plays a key role in the day-to-day operation of Westcan helping to achieve our commitment to continuously meet our customer's requirements.

The schedule will be 5 on and 2 off, 3 on and 4 off, 80 hours per pay period.

About the position:

  • Matching drivers, trucks, and trailers to orders based on load requirements and qualifications while optimizing fleet resources and ensuring proper utilization
  • Ensuring drivers have adequate hours of service and rest
  • Ensuring product compatibility with equipment when assigning each load
  • Arranging for equipment to be available for fleet maintenance
  • Planning route for drivers by adding route or track points as required
  • Ensuring all load special instructions are communicated effectively to relevant drivers and/or personnel
  • Providing instructions to and answering questions from drivers
  • Contacting off-duty drivers to provide trip instructions for the next on duty status
  • Communicating with drivers on any deviations with planned loads
  • Communicating schedule requests to operations supervisor
  • Coordinating and communicating changes to planned orders and updating the system as required
  • Monitoring total mail and keeping the system up to date
  • Taking customer orders by phone, email, and fax and enter orders to the TMW system and provide confirmation of order to the customer
  • Managing tank levels and confirming inventory levels utilizing in house software system, identifying any conflicting information for review
  • Creating orders using the Inventory Management system for sites that have inventory levels managed by the carrier (ASR)
  • Providing ETA as required and providing updated information to customers when changing plans
  • Administering other duties as required
What you bring:
  • Previous demonstrated experience in forecasting, manpower allocation and scheduling proficiencies
  • Familiarity and experience with RM's, road bans and permitting- knowledge of LSD is an asset
  • Experience with windows-based programs is required; TMW experience is an asset - must be computer literate and savvy
  • High level of communication skills; both verbally and written
  • Outstanding customer service behaviors
  • Forward-thinker - must be able to plan and foresee potential issues that may require the plan to be adjusted
  • Must have strong organizational, and interpersonal as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a sense of humor and composure in challenging situations and not be frustrated when the plans change
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, requiring initiative and ambition
