Job Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and tracking the movement of structural steel materials from fabrication through subcontracted processes (such as painting and galvanizing) and onward to project job sites. This role ensures timely deliveries, accurate tracking, and clear communication between internal teams, subcontractors, and site personnel to support project schedules and minimize delays.
Key ResponsibilitiesLogistics & Transportation
Coordinate delivery schedules of structural steel to project sites in accordance with project timelines
Arrange transportation with carriers and drivers, including special handling or oversized loads
Prepare and distribute delivery schedules, shipping documentation, and bills of lading
Track inbound and outbound shipments and provide status updates to project teams
Subcontractor Coordination
Schedule and track steel through external subcontractors such as:
Painters / coating facilities
Galvanizers
Other finishing or processing vendors
Coordinate pick-up and drop-off logistics between fabrication shop, subcontractors, and sites
Material Tracking & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of steel location, status, and quantities at each stage of production and delivery
Update tracking logs, ERP systems, or spreadsheets with real-time information
Verify delivery tickets, packing slips, and subcontractor documentation for accuracy
Communication & Coordination
Act as the primary point of contact for logistics-related communication between:
Fabrication shop
Subcontractors
Trucking companies
Site superintendents and project managers
Proactively identify potential delays and communicate mitigation plans
Support project managers with logistics updates and forecasts
Problem Solving & Compliance
Resolve delivery issues, shortages, damage claims, or scheduling conflicts
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, transportation requirements, and site access rules
Support continuous improvement of logistics processes and workflows
QualificationsRequired
Experience in logistics, supply chain coordination, or construction-related operations
Familiarity with structural steel fabrication, construction materials, or industrial manufacturing (preferred)
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Excellent communication and coordination abilities
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic tracking systems
Preferred
Experience coordinating subcontractors such as galvanizers or coating facilities
Knowledge of construction site delivery requirements and sequencing
Understanding of transportation regulations for oversized or heavy loads
