We are seeking a dedicated Line Cook/Prep Cook to join our growing kitchen team in a local pub located in Birch Cliff area of Toronto. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a strong understanding of food safety and preparation techniques. This role is essential in ensuring that our kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently in order to increase our customer base and grow our company while delivering high-quality meals to our guests.
Taking initiative, willing to learn and a passion for cooking are desired traits. We are a small staff and we like to create a friendly and positive environment, no negative attitudes please. Being courteous, hard working and helpful is a must.
The ideal candidate should have an open availability to work weekends, days, late nights and holidays when needed.

This is a 3-month contract hire with the possiblity of a permanent full time postion after the contract has expired.
Responsibilities
Prepare and cook menu items (lunch, brunch and dinner) according to recipes and standards, ensuring consistency in taste and presentation.
Assist in meal preparation by chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients as needed.
Maintain a clean, sanitized and organized kitchen, including proper storage of food items.
Keep good hygiene and wash hands between jobs
Clean and sanitize cooking equipment, utensils, dishes and cutlery when necessary
Open kitchen for lunch/brunch with necessary mise en place
Close kitchen at night with necessary clean up such as wrap up ingredients, cover station, sweep, mop and take out garbage
Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as necessary.
Follow all food safety guidelines and regulations to ensure the health and safety of our guests.
Requirements
Previous experience in a food service or restaurant environment is preferred. Ideally, at least 1 - 2 years experience in a restaurant, bar or pub cooking on the line and prepping for service.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team. Strong command of the English Language
General knowledge of scratch cooking is necessary, although training is available for those with limited skill. Knife skills a must.
A passion for cooking and a desire to learn new skills in the kitchen.
Ability to work independently, as you will be primarily working in a one person kitchen
Practice FIFO
Able to lift 30-50lbs when necessary (bag of potatoes, flour for example)
Strong knowledge of food safety practices and proper food handling techniques. Food safety certification is preferable
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Dress Code: You can wear plain, clean clothing, although a black shirt and pants is preferable. If you have your own chef coat and pants, that is ideal but not necessary as aprons will be provided. Must supply your own head gear (chef hat, baseball hat or bandana) and your own non-slip shoes.
