This position plays a key role in preparing high-quality meals, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen and supporting the overall guest experience. The role requires a strong commitment to food safety, teamwork and professionalism, both in the kitchen and when interacting with colleagues, vendors and guests.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Cooking
Prepare, season and cook menu items to provided recipes and specifications
Ensure proper portioning, plating and presentation of all dishes
Prepare pre-packaged menu items for the arenas two concessions
Strictly follow all food safety and handling guidelines
Set-up and stock stations with necessary supplies before and during service
Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
Inventory and Receiving
Assist with inventory counts, stock rotation and restocking of items as needed
Help receive deliveries and check for accuracy and quality of products
Notify management of low stock, expired items or quality concerns
Kitchen Operations
Follow thorough opening and closing procedures, including cleaning and equipment checks
Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary workspace during and after all shifts
Monitor and record food temperatures and hold times as required
Handle food waste properly and minimize unnecessary waste wherever possible
Administrative and Offsite Support
Assist with basic administrative duties as requested (e.g. prep sheets, waste logs, inventory tracking)
Be available to work offsite for special events or functions on behalf of the restaurant or association
Teamwork and Communication
Work closely with servers, bartenders and bussers to ensure timely and accurate food service
Communicate openly and respectfully with all team members, including front-of-house staff, managers, board members and vendors
Support a collaborative and professional kitchen culture
Respond constructively to feedback and direction from supervisory staff
Food Safety and Standards
Maintain valid and up-to-date Food Safe Level 1 certification and any other required credentials
Follow all food safety procedures meticulously, including proper storage, handling and hygiene practices
Ensure all kitchen and storage areas meet or exceed public health standards at all times
Take personal responsibility for the cleanliness and safety of your station, tools and shared spaces
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience in a commercial kitchen or similar environment
Current Food Safe Level 1 certification (minimum requirement)
Complete a Criminal Record Check (required)
Strong understanding of kitchen operations and food safety best practices
Ability to follow recipes and direction while working efficiently and with attention to detail
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Physical ability to lift up-to 50 lbs, stand for long periods and handle hot equipment safely
Positive attitude, reliability and a strong work ethic are a must
Work Environment
This is a team-based role in a fast-paced family friendly restaurant attached to a busy sports facility. The ideal candidate is comfortable with varied responsibilities and flexible scheduling, including occasional work at offsite events on behalf of the association or restaurant. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and occasional offsite events is required.
