Position Description:

The position supports teaching, learning and research through outreach, research instruction, and pursues opportunities to enhance these areas. The position reports to the Snr. Manager, Library Services and will work out of all campuses although based at the St James Library Learning Commons. Working in a hybrid context, the position is the primary Liaison for the School of Labour, School of Media and Performing Arts, School of Deaf & Blind Studies, School of Early Childhood, School of Social and Community Services, and Community Partnerships.

Key responsibilities:

  • Actively fosters partnerships and relationships with chairs, faculty, staff students in the assigned program areas and other support areas in the Student Success Division.
  • Uses innovative design and assessment methods incorporating principles of UDL to provide information and digital literacy to students and faculty.
  • Manages a collection budget to build a robust research and study collection for the assigned programs, spanning a variety of formats, including open education resources.
  • Creates tutorials, LibGuides, and other teaching and learning objects to support outreach, learning and research.
  • Develops and implements outreach strategies to increase student and faculty awareness about library resources and services available.
  • Prepares program reviews for new and existing courses to assess library impact and participates in quality control and accreditation meetings to represent the library.
  • Provides reference and research support in a hybrid context and in developing reference programming to support learning.
  • Undertakes project work to support special initiatives or implement new services.
  • Leads the growth and development of an assigned area of service within the LLC.
  • Provides guidance and training to Library Technicians and other library staff in support of reference, research, and project work.
  • Collaborates internally and externally to achieve quality and academic excellence by participating in committee work or special projects related to the student experience.
  • Monitors trends and services in academic librarianship and provides leadership to identify new solutions, evaluate and promote new technologies and strategies to enhance the learning and research experience.
  • Assists with the administrative functions of the library as assigned.
  • Develops partnerships with other college liaison librarians and participates in consortium initiatives.
  • Participates in and contributes to departmental, divisional, and college-wide committees or working groups, and external professional events.
  • Maintains an awareness of professional trends and developments that can be applied to research, services, and collections.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Master of Library and Information Studies degree from an American Library Association accredited program with 1-2 years\' experience in an academic library environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of collection development practices and familiarity with print and digital resources in the assigned program areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of library instruction with ability to teach in a variety of settings and adhering to universal design and AODA principles.
  • Demonstrated reference experience to a large and diverse patronage.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in the integration of new technologies in library service.
  • Excellent technology experience and skills will be an asset.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral, and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collegial setting with diverse clientele.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to mentor and support others and be a catalyst for change.
  • Availability to adjust work schedule to accommodate occasional evening and weekend teaching.
