Job Summary: The Associate University Librarian, Scholarly Resources joins a dynamic leadership team in defining, implementing and assessing library-wide strategic priorities to advance the teaching, learning and research mandates of the two institutions we serve: Ontario Tech University and Durham College. The AUL, Scholarly Resources brings visionary leadership and strategic oversight to a portfolio that encompasses all aspects of the scholarly resources lifecycle, including collection development, acquisitions and metadata, copyright and scholarly communication. With an astute understanding of the evolving role of the academic library, they will shape a robust and responsive teaching and learning environment, reflecting a commitment and recognition of the many lifelong literacies (information, data, numeric, etc.) demanded of students, faculty and staff.
Working in a highly collaborative and interrelated environment with the AUL for Digital Initiatives and the University Librarian, the AUL, Scholarly Resources will be instrumental in developing and advancing strategy, programs and practices around established and emerging areas of focus including research data management, artificial intelligence, open access, open educational resources, as well as research impact and metrics.

In conjunction with Library leadership and the library team as a whole, the AUL, Scholarly Resources will help advance our ethos of respect, equity, diversity and inclusion through demonstrated commitment and actions. Engaging with members of the campus and broader communities, they will deliver compelling messaging around Library strategic priorities, encourage experimentation, build relationships and foster collaborations. They will be strong proponents of a healthy organizational culture that values mutual respect and understands the importance of cultivating a sense of belonging and meaningful contribution across all members of the team.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Reporting to the University Librarian, and as a member of the Library\'s senior leadership team, works collegially to develop and implement Library-wide strategy, program planning and policy.
  • Leads strategic development and curriculum integration of the Library\'s in-person, online and hybrid information literacy programming.
  • Administers, allocates and monitors collections budgets for each institution.
  • Develops policies and programs that ensure responsive acquisition of collections and resource requirements for all Faculties of Durham College and Ontario Tech.
  • Provides overall direction for and supervision of the liaison librarian team.
  • Oversees and supports the metadata and acquisitions team.
  • Advocates for ongoing staff development, mentoring, and engagement of staff, fostering and leading teams.
  • Provides high-level advocacy promotion and support for the creation, adoption and use of open educational resources with campus stakeholders.
  • Monitors and assesses the viability of emerging trends in academic research libraries and higher education, identifies opportunities to translate to relevant and innovative programming.
  • Works collaboratively with Library campus partners to advance the Library\'s contributions to ensure the institutions meet Tri-Agency requirements for open access and research data management.
  • Effectively communicates the Library\'s strategic priorities and pursues partnerships with the Ontario Tech and Durham College communities.
  • Represents the Library in appropriate institutional, regional, national, and international organizations and initiatives.
  • Serves on library, university, and college committees.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and evidence of flexibility and initiative in a collaborative and rapidly changing environment. Experience within a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Increasingly responsible administrative roles in an academic or research library or similar relevant setting.
  • Experience in scholarly resource development, evaluation, negotiation, acquisition, delivery and access.
  • Capacity for evidence-based collection development and management.
  • Excellent budget management and analysis skills.
  • Robust knowledge of issues and trends in scholarly communication and publishing.
  • Familiarity with various forms of data (geospatial, numerical, etc.) and research data management as well as digital scholarship.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain meaningful collaborative partnerships to serve shared goals.
  • Strong and demonstrated record of effective priority setting, policy coordination, program and process development, as well as the use of analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Capability to represent the library in local, provincial and national communities and consortia.
Required Education:
  • Completion of a Master\'s Degree in a Specialized or Occupational Field or Completion of an Undergraduate Degree plus Professional Certification
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required
