LEGAL ASSISTANT SOUGHT: The Law Office of Kathleen Robichaud is looking for a full-time, Legal Assistant to join their team. The office is located in a charming old house in Manotick.
About the Opportunity
You would work at reception and assist with greeting our clients and other general office administration duties. Your job here would be to help clients with some of the most important events in their lives including making a Will and estate planning; administering the estate of a loved one; the purchase or the sale of significant assets like a business or a home. As a Legal Assistant at this firm you will support the work of a senior lawyer work together with our team of full and part-time assistants. In addition to looking after reception, you will assist with the drafting of Wills; preparation of estate administration documents; the preparation of transaction documents for real estate purchases and sales; for incorporating a company; and, for purchases and sales of businesses and with keeping the documents organized. You will also assist with general day to day tasks within the office and with supporting the work of the lawyers in the office.
Your Qualifications
You must be able to type using proper keyboarding position. You will need basic office skills including having the ability to create folders in file explorer; add paper to a photocopy machine or be capable of figuring out how; be able to send a fax; operate a land line telephone; address an envelope to be sent by mail and complete the information required by a courier service to send or pick-up a document. You must be comfortable with working on a computer and preferably have experience using PCLaw or other legal accounting and office management software; Conveyancer/Unity and other software used for producing legal documents as well as with; Teranet; Wordperfect and Microsoft Word; Outlook; Excel; and Adobe. You must be organized and have a strong attention to detail including an ability to see, follow and complete instructions. The candidate must have a pleasant manner both in person and on the phone. Strong verbal and written communications skills are a must. You may need to drive to the bank from time to time and so a valid Driver's Licence is also required, as is the use of your vehicle to get to the bank or other places you need to drive to. Regular bus service is not available to the office. Formal training as a law clerk or paralegal and recent experience in a solicitor's practice is essential.
