JUMP! Canada is looking for a dynamic, passionate, and experienced Lead Outdoor Instructor to play a key role in delivering transformational, fun, and safe courses for youth at our wilderness site near 100 Mile House, BC.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Program Leadership
Lead, Manage and Accountable for a team of Outdoor Instructors, providing training and mentorship to foster a positive and supportive team environment.
Develop and implement engaging and effective experiential learning programs aligned with JUMP!'s mission and goals.
Oversee the planning and execution of all program activities, including logistics, risk management, and safety protocols.
Facilitate challenging and transformative experiences for participants, focusing on personal growth, leadership development, and teamwork.
Risk Management and Safety
Prioritize safety in all aspects of program delivery.
Conduct thorough risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
Oversee emergency procedures and ensure staff are trained in first aid and CPR.
Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and near-misses.
Team Development and Collaboration
Foster a positive and collaborative team culture.
Provide ongoing training and support to staff, ensuring they are equipped to deliver high-quality programs.
Encourage open communication and feedback among team members.
Participant Experience
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
Adapt programs to meet the diverse needs and abilities of participants.
Provide constructive feedback and support to participants, helping them to grow and develop.
Operational Support
Contribute to the overall management of the program, including logistics, equipment maintenance, and facility upkeep.
Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure smooth program operations.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
250+ hours working with youth and young adults in wilderness settings
250+ hours of facilitation experience with youth and young adult groups
Wilderness First Responder or equivalent training
Extensive experience backpacking in remote wilderness areas (30+ days)
Extensive experience backpacking in remote wilderness areas in a leadership role (25+ days)
Significant experience climbing peaks in high alpine environments (above 3000m)
Significant experience flatwater canoeing in wilderness settings (25+ days)
Bronze Cross
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Association of Canadian Mountain Guide Certification
Class 4 Canadian Driver's License (or willingness to obtain one)
Swift Water Rescue Technician Certification - Level 1
Significant personal experience climbing in outdoor settings
Significant personal experience guiding climbing in indoor and/or outdoor settings
Significant experience guiding youth on high & low rope courses/elements
Experience facilitating ceremony and impactful transitional events for youth and young adults
Experience as a leader facilitating introspective and vulnerable group discussions
